The energy within Black Diamond hadn't died down; if anything, it had gotten louder. The air was thick with bougie perfumes, sweat, and bass that echoed through the bones of the entire nightclub. Everywhere, the flashing lights got caught in an array of colors that shimmered off sequins and glitter as people joined in together to dance to the songs performed.
On stage, Premise of Design had become the center of attention for everyone in the building; patrons and staff alike. Their sharp choreography and smooth performance made the room feel smaller than it was, captivating the audience despite not being the full stage performance they would do during a concert.
Lucian, front and center, graced the crowd with his trademark smirk before finishing the last line of "Mirrored Touch." Casen and Rylan raised their arms, forming a heart with grins spread across their faces, while Enzo pushed his hair back with one hand. The patrons erupted with screams and applause, relishing in the fact that Premise of Design wasn't even part of the bands scheduled to perform, just one called by the owner who had a cancellation during the evening.
Lucian lifted the stage mic, "Thank you, Black Diamond, for the invitation! You've been beautiful tonight." His voice dripped with its usual confidence as he set the mic back up for the next act and waved as they exited for the backstage area.
Casen bounced from foot to foot, grinning like a happy dog. "For such an upscale place, that crowd was insane!"
Rylan wiped sweat off his face with a towel he had picked up, "Insane is an understatement. Someone's plus one tried to grab my mic during the bridge of our second set."
Lucian grinned through the towel that he rubbed over his face, "They've got good taste," he teased.
"Or, they've got bad boundaries," Luca murmured as he finally made his appearance for the first time since they had set foot into the club.
"Oh, look who's finally here," Lucian chuckled. Luca waved a hand and began removing his mic pack, then the others', and got them packed up neatly in their cases.
"You seem distracted." Lucian hummed, looping his arm around Luca's shoulders.
Luca gave a small sigh, "I'm always distracted."
Lucian looked him over, humming as he stepped back. About that time, Enzo cleared his throat to get everyone's attention. He spoke quietly, "Let's get going before the fans find the back door again."
Rylan gave an awkward smile, "I think it's too late for that."
The guys paused and looked at the door, hearing the muffled screaming that echoed just beyond the side exit. It started off subtle, then grew louder with each passing moment.
Lucian chuckled, running a hand through his hair to push it back, "Well... Showtime, boys." He gestured to security, who nodded.
The five moved quickly, stage crew following with the equipment they had brought. Security opened the side door, leading them toward the alley where barricades had been placed for their route to their van. Fans called out to them, pressing against the barricade boards, taking photos, and asking for autographs.
"Luca! Luca, over here!"
"Rylan, can I have a hug?!"
"Lucian, can I have an autograph?!"
Rylan made a small comment, Lucian grinned, while Luca lifted a hand in polite acknowledgment, moving in step toward the van. Luca kept his focus forward; however, as he passed one of the barricades, one of the younger fans lost her balance and fell over it.
She collided straight into him by accident, sending Luca to the ground. He managed to catch her before her face hit the concrete, causing the entire crowd to gasp. The fan who fell was already profusely apologizing, and security got her up, "Oh my god. Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" She was on the verge of tears.
Security flanked them, "Back up! Give him space!"
Luca laughed, taking Rylan's hand as he offered it, and was pulled off the ground. He brushed himself off, smiling, "I'm fine, I'm fine. No harm done."
He rolled his shoulders, looking to the girl, now on the other side of the barrier, who had tears running down her cheeks, "Are you alright?"
She hiccupped a yes, hiding behind her friends out of sheer embarrassment. Her face was bright red as she held onto her friends for dear life. Luca gave a soft smile, turning away like nothing had happened, and climbed into the van. Enzo quickly closed the door behind him so they could take off.
Lucian sat across from Luca, looking him over. "Well, that's one way to meet your audience."
Rylan lifted a hand to his mouth to hide his grin. "Pretty sure that poor girl just declared war on the rest of his fanbase."
Lucian tapped Luca on the knee to grab his attention, "You sure you're okay?"
Luca sighed. "Seriously, I'm fine. The poor kid didn't mean it."
Enzo, who was sprawled out across the seat in the back, tilted his head to look at them. "That'll be online in about three seconds."
"I think you mean it was online within three seconds." Casen chuckled.
The city lights flickered faintly through the van's tinted windows as the five settled for the ride back to their home. Luca watched out the window as Lucian spoke up to get rid of the silence, "Good set tonight."
"Great set." Rylan corrected then chuckled and leaned forward, grabbing Luca's shoulders, "Minus our boy here getting tackled by enthusiasm."
Luca rolled his eyes, groaning, "Don't remind me."
"Too late," Casen mused from his phone.
Luca turned, resting his head on his arms crossed over the back of the seat, "Already?"
"Yup." Casen popped the 'p', "'Luca Hunt knocked down by fan outside Black Diamond.' Video's got like what... twenty thousand views?" He held his phone up in Luca's face as he spoke, causing Luca to briefly pull his head back until the screen was no longer blinding him.
Rylan was quiet before bursting out laughing. "Damn," he whistled, "They move fast."
Lucian chuckled, fishing his phone out of his pocket. "Could use it as promo material," he joked.
"Oh yeah," Luca rolled his eyes before spreading his arms out across the back of the seat, "Perfect headline: 'Idol Flattened By Affection.'" he swayed his hand to each word, "Real dignified."
The other members laughed at the comment, all being drawn into their phones aside from Luca, who kept watching the city speed by in an array of lights and people. He rested his head on his shoulder, tuning out Casen and Rylan as they bantered behind him.
Rylan interrupted Luca's thoughts when he lay his head on Luca's arm, inches from his face, "What's that look for?"
Luca blinked, slowly lifting his head, "Nothing. Just thinking."
Rylan lifted his head, leaning his hands on the back of the seat as he leaned forward, "You thinking either means we're getting a new song or it's about a girl."
"Oh, right," Lucian hummed with realization without looking up from his phone. "Didn't you meet someone outside the club earlier? Rylan said you were a gentleman and you got her number."
Luca glanced at Rylan, who was giving him a cheeky grin. "She bumped into me."
Casen looked up from his phone and leaned up next to Luca on the right, "So, it's fate then?"
"Or gravity," Rylan commented.
Luca glanced between them, "Both."
One word caused them to laugh, Lucian set his phone down next to him on the seat, leaning his head against the headrest, "Who's this mystery girl?"
Luca exchanged a glance with Rylan before sighing, "Miss. Elaine Wolf."
Casen's jaw practically dropped at the name, "Wait, wait. You met that chick who got crazy popular for... what was that song?"
"Pushing Buttons." Lucian named it right off, "She was outside?"
"She was running away," Rylan joked.
Luca swatted at Rylan, causing him to laugh. "She said she had already had enough chaos for one night."
Lucian gave a curt nod, smiling while Rylan and Casen sat back, realizing Luca wouldn't give more details about the chance encounter. Rylan grinned, cracking jokes about Casen's guitar solo lasting "centuries", while Enzo stayed quiet. He lay with his phone up, posting a thank you to the fans and Black Diamond on the band's official account while Lucian picked up his phone to text with their manager about their upcoming schedule.
Luca took a breather, scooting closer to the window to lean against it with his hood up and legs propped up on the seat. After a moment, he took his phone from his pocket, scrolling for Elaine Wolf's contact. He pondered a moment before typing, hitting send before he could second-guess it. He locked his phone back, putting it back into his pocket, and settled with his eyes closed, listening to the conversations around him until they dulled.
