Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 – Before the Chaos

(Jayjay's Point of View)

If I had known that day would change everything, I would've held on a little longer.

To the laughter, to the sunlight, to the feeling that nothing could ever break Section E apart.

It was just another morning at Higher Value International School.

Students were rushing through the gates, laughter spilling across the courtyard, and the smell of rain still lingered in the air from last night's storm.

I remember Keifer teasing Yuri at the vending machine again, pretending to steal his drink, while Ella tried to stop them from arguing.

Typical Section E chaos — the harmless kind.

"Jayjay, you coming to class or staring into space again?" Keifer called.

I rolled my eyes and grabbed my bag. "I'm coming, I'm coming. Some of us like to actually breathe before morning chaos starts."

He smirked. "Chaos follows you, not me."

If only he knew how right he'd be later.

The day started normally. First period. Roll call. Notes.

But halfway through math class, the lights flickered.

Once. Twice.

And for a split second, I saw it — a shadow moving across the window even though we were on the top floor.

Nobody else seemed to notice.

At least… I thought nobody did.

When class ended, I was the last to leave. I felt someone watching me.

And then I heard it.

"The King has moved. Your next step decides everything."

The same voice that would haunt me for weeks.

I turned, but the room was empty — only my reflection stared back from the blackboard.

At lunch, Section E gathered in our classroom.

We laughed, we ate, we argued about who would clean the room after.

Everything felt so normal that I almost convinced myself I imagined the voice.

Then Keifer came in late, his uniform stained with dust.

"Someone broke into the restricted floor," he said, dropping his bag.

"They didn't steal anything… but the seal on the Soul Room—it's gone."

The laughter faded. The air felt heavier.

I glanced at the clock.

2:47 PM.

That was the moment I felt it — the shift.

The moment the calm, perfect life we knew started to crumble.

And even now, when I close my eyes, I can still hear the storm that followed.
