The next morning, Maya called the hospital where her mother was admitted. It turned out the email was correct: Maya's mother was indeed being kept alive only by machines, and the cost was extremely high, not to mention the suffering it caused her mother, who seemed unable to pass away.
There was only one week left before the bill was due again. Maya turned to look at Dylan, who was sitting next to her, tears streaming down her face even though his expression didn't look sad.
"So, what's your decision? Do you want to go?" Dylan asked.
"Yes, at the very least, I want to see Mom one last time," Maya answered.
Dylan thought for a moment, while Lena, Amy, and Ellie came up and hugged Maya all together. After a brief pause, Dylan looked back at Maya.
"Alright, let's go," Dylan offered.
"Okay, let me get ready first," Maya replied, wiping her tears.
"Same here, I'll get ready too," Lena added, standing up and motioning for Maya to stand as well.
