Chapter 3: Destined Death

The strange words made Huo Yuhao frown slightly. The young man before him, however, mistook that reaction as hesitation—he thought he had succeeded in persuading him. Yet before he could utter another word, the next instant froze him in sheer disbelief.

Huo Yuhao's eyes suddenly lit up with a radiant rose-gold hue. At the same time, a faint golden light blossomed upon his forehead—soft and gentle, yet carrying an aura that seemed to pierce through the darkness of dawn. It wasn't dazzling, but it instinctively forced the young man to squint. From within that golden light, a vertical eye slowly opened.

"The Eye of Destiny!?"

It was as if something suddenly clicked in his mind. The young man screamed in shock, his voice breaking with panic and disbelief.

"You're not… you're not a transmigrator! You—you're Huo Yuhao himself!"

Indeed, that vertical eye was none other than the Eye of Destiny, the divine artifact bound to Huo Yuhao's very soul—an innate, soul-bound relic that had followed him through death and rebirth alike.

Huo Yuhao wasn't surprised that the other had recognized it. From the man's earlier behavior, it was already clear that he knew far too much—knowledge far beyond what anyone in this world should possess. Before today, Huo Yuhao and Dai Huabin had never even crossed paths. Yet that same Dai Huabin had just ordered his guards to attack him, clearly under this young man's instigation.

If not for his timely rebirth, Huo Yuhao would have been slain on the spot. The thought made his blood run cold. If this person knows that much about me… does he also know about my mother?

A vicious glint flashed through Huo Yuhao's rose-gold eyes. Ever since he had awoken in this life, only he knew how deeply he cherished this second chance. To have someone try to destroy that the very moment he returned—such a person could not be allowed to live.

But before anything else, he needed to know what exactly this so-called "transmigrator" meant.

The instant the young man sensed Huo Yuhao's undisguised killing intent, his body trembled uncontrollably. Regaining a bit of strength, he tried to turn and flee—but before he could take a single step, a crushing force seized his collar from behind and slammed him heavily to the ground.

The impact rattled his skull, sending waves of dizziness through him. Before he could recover, a series of crisp snapping sounds filled the air. Pain exploded from his limbs, searing through his nerves and making him scream miserably. In mere seconds, all four of his limbs had been dislocated.

"D-don't kill me! Please—I can be useful! I can help you—I can help you defeat Tang San!"

Huo Yuhao ignored him completely. If not for the risk that excessive pain might agitate the man's spirit and disrupt what he planned to do next, he wouldn't have been this merciful at all.

He raised his left hand and pressed it firmly against the man's forehead. His lips began to move, murmuring an ancient incantation—low, obscure, and brimming with necrotic energy.

Ever since his rebirth, not only had the Sin of Origin and the Eye of Destiny returned to him, but his spiritual power—his very soul—had grown stronger than before. It was just enough to sustain certain necromantic spells.

Fragmented images began to flood into his mind. Though incomplete, they were enough for Huo Yuhao to understand the truth about this young man.

His name was Yu Ming. Like Tang San, he too had come from another world—his soul had crossed into this realm, possessing the body of a servant's child under the Duke's household. Even before his transmigration, Yu Ming had already known Huo Yuhao's story from his past life, which was why he had instantly recognized the Eye of Destiny.

After arriving in this world, Yu Ming discovered a strange martial soul within his spiritual sea—a martial soul that could evolve endlessly by absorbing the power of soul beasts with the same elemental attribute.

Delighted by his fortune, Yu Ming, in his arrogance, immediately designated its element as Ice. With the knowledge of future events that only a transmigrator could possess, he intended to one day devour the powers of countless Ice-type soul beasts—the Ice Jade Emperor Scorpion, among others—to evolve his martial soul to the pinnacle.

But fearing that Huo Yuhao, the so-called "protagonist" of this world, might stand in his way, Yu Ming had long plotted to eliminate him before he could grow. As early as a year ago, he had begun to approach Dai Huabin, intending to borrow his hand to kill Huo Yuhao within the Duke's estate.

Unfortunately, at that time, Huo Yuhao had not yet awakened his martial soul, and many within the Duke's mansion were still watching the situation. Even the Duchess herself dared not act openly against him—she could only suppress him indirectly.

Unable to rush things, Yu Ming could only wait, planning to strike within the next two days.

But fate had other plans. On the very day of the martial soul awakening ceremony, Yu Ming had run straight into the reborn Huo Yuhao.

"I have a question for you."

Having finished reading the memories, Huo Yuhao's gaze returned to the trembling boy before him. The depth in his eyes was unfathomable, making Yu Ming's scalp prickle in terror.

"Although I still don't quite understand why you hate me so much…" Huo Yuhao paused, his tone taking on a strange, almost pitying lilt. "Tell me—do all you transmigrators enjoy manipulating the fates of others so much?"

The thought itself was ironic. Before transmigration, Yu Ming had been just an ordinary person—someone who couldn't even bring himself to kill a chicken. Yet after gaining a second life, he had transformed into someone willing to kill innocents for the sake of power, for the thrill of control.

The change was monstrous—akin to a soul usurper taking over another's body. If one didn't know better, they might have mistaken him for a Evil Soul Master reborn from corruption.

Seeing Yu Ming's lips tremble, unable to form a coherent reply, Huo Yuhao sighed softly and shook his head.

"From your memories, I can tell you despise the man who once controlled my life," he said quietly. "But truth be told, you're no different from him. In fact, you're even worse."

As his final word fell, the Eye of Destiny on Huo Yuhao's forehead began to stir, its golden slit rippling with a mysterious transformation.

Yu Ming's heart pounded wildly. Under the gaze of that spirit eye, a primal terror rose within him—an instinctive fear that made him feel as though something hidden deep within his being was being stripped bare. Even his soul began to tremble uncontrollably.

Huo Yuhao's experience was equally strange. Ever since his rebirth, his Eye of Destiny seemed to have undergone a subtle evolution. When he activated it now, a new kind of vision emerged in his mind.

The world before him became shrouded in a grayish veil—everything around him seemed dull and lifeless. Yet, after focusing on Yu Ming for a few moments, luminous cracks—like bright fissures—began to appear all over Yu Ming's body. These lines crisscrossed chaotically, finally converging on his left shoulder.

Feeling his spiritual power rapidly drain away, Huo Yuhao's eyes flickered. Without hesitation, he drew a White Tiger Dagger and gently traced it along one of the glowing lines on Yu Ming's arm.

A bizarre scene unfolded. The blade did not cut flesh or draw blood—it passed straight through the arm as if slicing through an illusion. But as Huo Yuhao's dagger followed the glowing fissure, Yu Ming's arm began to wither rapidly, turning black, crumbling into dust, and vanishing into the air.

"M-my arm…"

Yu Ming's horrified gaze fell on the empty sleeve where his arm had been. His eyes widened with sheer terror at the unnatural sight.

"I think," Huo Yuhao said calmly, "I'll call this ability—Destined Death. What do you think?"

Even that simple experiment was enough for Huo Yuhao to understand the nature of his new power. The Eye of Destiny, reborn with him, now possessed the ability to see through the very essence of life and death. By severing those lines of fate, he could erase a living being at its core.

However, even this brief use came at a steep price. Not only did perceiving the lines consume enormous spiritual power, but the act of cutting them also drained his mind at an alarming rate.

He could faintly sense that the difficulty of cutting these lines was tied to the opponent's strength. If the opponent's power far exceeded his own, attempting to sever their fate might well consume all his spiritual power in an instant.

At Huo Yuhao's calm remark, Yu Ming's eyes snapped toward him in rage. Meeting Huo Yuhao's indifferent gaze, his body trembled violently before his eyes turned bloodshot.

"Huo Yuhao—you're nothing but Tang San's lapdog! A worthless slave who'll serve him for life!"

Realizing there was no escape, Yu Ming's sanity shattered. Having never faced true life and death before, he roared like a cornered beast, releasing all the hatred festering in his heart.

"So many people helped you—and you betrayed them all! You deserve to die!"
