prologue

If there's a novel or comic that's really good, of course, many people would be interested in reading it.

But what if the ending of that novel or comic turns out to be absolute trash?

A famous novelist named Chaeriin Abraham, better known by her username "Nebula," created a novel called The Rebellious Dark Knight, or TRDK for short. The novel already had a comic adaptation and had reached 1,193 chapters, nearing its conclusion.

Despite its massive popularity, a flood of criticism hit the author's official account just a day after the novel's ending was released.

The reason? The ending was terribly unsatisfying. In that ending, the main character, Lois Fourtuna, who bore the title "The Rebellious Dark Knight," made a decision completely opposite to his name.

Instead of continuing to fight against dangerous entities and rebel against the order of the TRDK world, he chose to live peacefully with his wife.

After all his long struggles—after the bloodshed, betrayal, and world-shaking wars—Lois returned to the Vermilion Empire.

Not as a rebel.

Not as a threat.

But as a new pillar of the empire, continuing Vermilion's glory under the emperor's banner.

The final scene even closed with a grand ceremony where Lois stood beside the emperor, receiving an honorary title and swearing to protect world stability.

"I, Lois Fourtuna, the knight… am no longer a rebel. From this day on, I am the sword of Vermilion."

The reason was simple: he wanted to let go of his struggles, live in peace, and marry Elenor Andrea.

That was the ending Nebula gave.

And instantly, the fandom forums exploded with rage—because the story felt unfinished!

You might think the ending wasn't that bad, but in truth, there were still so many mysteries and unresolved enemies!

The world of TRDK was described as vast—Nebula herself once said that the planet Astra was three times larger than Jupiter. Yet the MC hadn't even explored the whole world, and countless conflicts remained unresolved.

Even the ancestor of the Fourtuna family, known for their luck that once led the Vermilion Empire to glory and believed to still be alive, never appeared. And Lois just decided to stop searching and live peacefully? Seriously?

It really felt like the author had gotten tired of writing and decided to end things abruptly.

But three weeks later, a post appeared on Nebula's official account:

"On August 7, 2025, the novelist Nebula, or Chaeriin Abraham, was declared missing in her apartment. Search efforts have been made, but no results yet.

I, her younger sibling, am the one who wrote the ending for The Rebellious Dark Knight and made this post. Since I'm not a novelist, I was afraid that forcing myself to continue would ruin my sister's work. So I only created an ending to give the story a sense of closure.

I sincerely apologize to all TRDK fans."

That post shook the entire reading community. It even included photos as proof—like police search documents and more.

Several social media accounts that had previously insulted Nebula quickly posted apologies, grieving for their missing favorite author.

Although the novel's ending was truly disappointing, some people decided to read the comic version—whether to honor the author or simply to enjoy the story regardless of its ending.

One of those readers was Miyami Akira.

He was a high school student who loved acting; because of that, he joined the drama club, where his acting skills were quite impressive.

That night, Miyami was reading the TRDK comic, specifically chapter 2,211.

The ending was at chapter 2,215, so there were only four chapters left to finish.

Miyami stared at his phone for a full hour.

Even though there were only four chapters left, each one was extremely long!

Still, the comic had cut out a lot compared to the novel—since, for some reason, Nebula loved to write bizarrely detailed scenes.

Like the emperor's 17-page speech, or Lois's six-chapter-long journey riding the dark dragon. What a waste of time to read all that.

At last, Miyami reached the end of the comic.

With a blank expression, he muttered, "So this is the ending? There's still so much unexplored."

"Heh… even the dragon king hasn't been defeated."

"If only I could enter that world myself, I'd never stop being a knight."

As soon as those words left his mouth, Miyami's phone began to emit a bluish-white light that quickly engulfed his body.

The light grew brighter, flooding the entire room—and then Miyami vanished.

It felt as if his body was being pulled into a void. Fierce winds lashed against his face, though there was no wind. His stomach churned, as if falling endlessly.

His body began to emit glowing blue particles—disintegrating into data, dissolving into pure information.

With panic on his face, Miyami tried to scream—

—but before he could, his entire body turned into streams of light and disappeared.
