Chapter 22 - Chapter 21: Mission: Kill Shisui!?

"Kill a jōnin, and it's only 100 kill points?!"

Hidan glared at the glowing system panel in his mind, practically foaming at the mouth. He had killed five ordinary people before and only got a single point each.

Now, after slaying an elite jōnin, he expected a jackpot. Instead, the system tossed him a measly 100 points like it was doing him a favor.

"Seriously?! That's just pocket change. How many points do I need to even upgrade a Kekkei Genkai? Are we playing gacha here?!"

The panel blinked back at him, unimpressed.

Kill System Status

Host: Hidan

Mind Transfer Technique

Eight Inner Gates

Body Flicker (Taijutsu category)

Kill Points: 105

Hidan scratched his head. Since obtaining the Eight Inner Gates, the system had judged his strength at quasi-Kage level. After killing Fū Yamanaka, it even granted him the Mind Transfer Technique.

"Big deal," Hidan snorted. "That jutsu's nothing but a glorified chicken rib."

He broke it down in his usual half-mocking, half-serious tone.

The Mind Transfer Technique could only be fired in a straight line, and it required medium range.

Once his spirit invaded an enemy's body, he could control them but there was a catch.

Any damage dealt to the target's body also rebounded onto him. And if the opponent's willpower overpowered his own, the possession failed, snapping his spirit back into his own body.

The backlash left him paralyzed, helpless, practically a free meal for anyone with a kunai.

"Great for spying, garbage for fighting," Hidan muttered. "No wonder the Yamanaka clan spends more time gossiping than actually winning wars."

Still, their natural perception ability was decent. Being able to sense chakra flows and intent in battle had its uses.

What annoyed him most wasn't the flaws...it was the system itself.

"Oi, system! Don't think I didn't notice. Fū had other tricks, like that 'Mind Puppet Curse Seal,' but you only gave me the main jutsu."

"You're picky as hell, aren't you? If the technique isn't famous, you just don't bother. Lazy bastard."

The panel, as always, ignored him.

He also noticed that his other Perfect Dick-kun wasn't even listed under his abilities anymore meaning it had literally fused with him, like a regular dick.

Was that weird? Maybe. Did he care? Hell no. As long as it was there, that's all that mattered.

Swish!

The door slid open. A silver flash of hair, a fox mask, and the ever-stoic Kakashi Hatake appeared. He tossed a small scroll onto the table.

"This is your mission," Kakashi said flatly before vanishing as suddenly as he arrived.

Hidan blinked at the empty doorway. "…Man, does nobody in this village know how to hold a conversation?"

Still, Kakashi's stiff behavior was telling. He clearly had questions about why a rookie like Hidan was immediately sent out on an assassination assignment.

But as an Anbu captain, Kakashi couldn't openly challenge orders. He could only report back to the Third Hokage.

Hidan, on the other hand, wasn't bothered in the slightest. His eyes gleamed with anticipation as he unrolled the scroll.

The target: Uchiha Shisui.

Jackpot

"Pffft—hahaha!"

Hidan erupted into laughter so loud it rattled the hut.

"Well, well, well. Looks like Danzo just wrapped a Kekkei Genkai delivery in a bow and handed it to me. I didn't even have to make the first move!"

He slapped the mission scroll against his palm, grinning like a maniac.

Ever since infiltrating Konoha, his long-term goal had been clear: secure Uchiha eyes. The Sharingan was one of the most coveted Kekkei Genkai in existence.

And now fate itself (disguised as Danzo's paranoia) was giving him the opportunity.

"It's almost too perfect. Shisui, the peace-loving prodigy, the guy who'd sacrifice everything for his clan and the village."

"Even after Danzo ambushed him and stole an eye, he still tried to forgive. Hah! What a joke. No wonder betrayal cut him so deep."

Hidan tapped the scroll, thoughtful.

With Shisui's Mangekyō, especially his fabled genjutsu Kotoamatsukami, Danzo had been scheming for years.

Sending Hidan after him was obviously a ploy. If Shisui killed Hidan, problem solved. If Hidan killed Shisui, Danzo swooped in to reap the reward. Classic snake-in-the-grass maneuver.

But Hidan wasn't worried.

Thanks to killing Fū, his spiritual energy had skyrocketed. Ordinary illusions no longer fazed him.

And Shisui? He wasn't about to waste Kotoamatsukami on some unknown silver-haired brat.

That genjutsu was his trump card, reserved for reshaping the destiny of the Uchiha and Konoha.

The risk wasn't Shisui. The risk was Danzo.

"That old war hawk's practically drooling for these eyes," Hidan muttered.

"If I fight Shisui head-on, Danzo's bound to make his move after. Not that I'm scared of him but he can't die yet."

Hidan's grin turned sharp. Danzo was too important. Someone had to push Uchiha into the corner, force their inevitable massacre, and collect all those delicious kill points. Without Danzo stirring the pot, the timeline might derail.

Which meant… Hidan had to play along.

"I'll kill Shisui, but after that? I show Danzo exactly why messing with me is suicide. Scare him enough to negotiate my own terms."

"Then, when the Uchiha Massacre hits, I'll be right there in the bloodbath, racking up points. Peak farming!"

He clenched his scythe, eyes shining with bloodthirst. "Kukuku… this is gonna be fun."

Root Headquarters

Meanwhile, deep beneath Konoha, Danzo Shimura sat at his desk, hands folded beneath his chin. His single eye gleamed with barely concealed hunger.

"The mission is set," he ordered coolly. "Prepare everything. Tomorrow, Shisui's eyes will be mine."

"Yes, Lord Danzo," Torune Aburame replied, bowing before vanishing into the darkness.

Danzo remained seated, alone. The candlelight flickered across his bandaged face as his thoughts churned.

Uchiha Shisui. The clan's greatest hope. The strongest illusionist of his generation. Soon, reduced to nothing but an offering for Danzo's ambition.

His fingers tightened around his cane, knuckles whitening. For years his right eye had been blind, hidden beneath the wrappings.

Tomorrow, it would be reborn with power... Shisui's Mangekyō gleaming in his socket.

And tomorrow, the Uchiha clan would edge one step closer to destruction.
