Chapter 48 - Chapter 47: Shameless Confession Before Nagato

Konan eyed Hidan warily. He had agreed to her condition so easily it almost felt suspicious.

Looking at him now...silver hair, tengu mask discarded, barely reaching her chin, he hardly seemed threatening. He looked like nothing more than a brat.

Sure, children in the shinobi world matured faster than normal, but compared to her, his short frame was almost comical.

"Hey, hey, hey! What kind of look is that?" Hidan huffed, clearly displeased.

"You're my maid now...don't tell me you doubt your powerful master!"

Konan: …

I'm not your maid yet. You haven't even fulfilled the agreement, she thought, lips tightening.

"Hmph! Fine then, I'll just drag you along to kill that old bastard Hanzo right now. Then you can be my maid in peace!" Hidan puffed his chest proudly, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Before she could react, his hand reached for hers. Konan stiffened as his fingers wrapped around her palm.

So soft… so smooth! Hidan's heart skipped. Konan's cheeks flushed red, she hadn't expected such boldness from him.

She tugged her hand back a few times but failed to break free. Finally, she gave up, lowering her head as her face burned.

"Kamui."

A vortex of spiraling space engulfed them, swallowing their figures into nothingness.

"Konan!"

"Nagato!"

The world warped, and the two reappeared beside Nagato. His skeletal body trembled beneath the strain of the Outer Path Golem.

While the monstrous statue loomed over him, feeding on his chakra. A dragon of violet light coiled around Hanzo, poised to strike.

"Na…gato…" Konan's voice quivered. Seeing his frail form made her chest ache.

Nagato coughed, blood seeping from his lips, yet his voice was steady.

"I've already chosen my path, Konan. …And who is he? Is he the one who pulled you away?" His eyes shifted toward Hidan.

Konan froze, face reddening. How was she supposed to explain? She couldn't reveal the humiliating condition she'd accepted.

All she could do was glance desperately at Hidan, silently begging him to speak for her.

But Hidan wasn't even paying attention...his gaze was locked on the Gedo Statue. The grotesque form, Ten-Tails' vessel, radiated power.

If only I had Rinnegan already… that beast would be mine, Hidan thought bitterly.

But killing Nagato now would ruin everything. For the long game, Nagato had to live.

Nagato's head snapped toward Hanzo. Rage flared. "You won't escape! Die here!"

With a roar, the purple dragon surged at Hanzo.

Hanzo, however, was unmoved. The so-called "demigod" blurred, vanishing with his perfected Body Flicker Technique.

"Kh—!" Nagato gasped, blood spilling from his lips. The chakra pipes embedded in his back shuddered, then cracked. The Outer Path Golem gave one last shriek before dispersing into white smoke.

Konan rushed forward, but Hidan pulled her back sharply.

"Oi, you're my maid now! Don't go clinging to other men in front of me!"

Konan's face went crimson. "I—I'm not your maid yet!" she stammered. This guy… to say such things in front of Nagato?!

Nagato's weary eyes flickered with confusion.

"Konan…?"

Hidan cut him off with a grin. "Don't 'Konan' her. She's already mine! She promised me...if I kill Hanzo, she becomes my personal maid! Right now, she's here to say her final goodbye."

"N-Nagato…" Konan bit her lip, then slowly nodded, shame in her expression.

Nagato exhaled heavily. His voice was filled with both sorrow and tenderness. "If… if he truly kills Hanzo, then perhaps it's not bad for you to follow him. The path I walk… it's too dangerous. At least you'd be spared."

Konan said nothing, but the look in her eyes told him she understood. His road was one of thorns and blood, a path toward godhood and ruin alike.

"Alright, enough farewells!" Hidan interrupted, tugging Konan's hand again, rubbing his thumb along her palm. Her whole face lit up with heat.

Nagato gave a final nod. "…Then go. If he fails, come back. You'll always have a place here."

"…Mn." Konan's voice was small. She wanted to say more, but Hidan's constant teasing left her tongue tied.

"Let's move!" Hidan smirked. "Nagato, take care of your wounds. Konan will witness Hanzo's death with her own eyes!"

Before Nagato could answer, Hidan scooped Konan into his arms without hesitation. She squeaked in protest, her cheeks burning as his arms locked around her.

This guy… hugging me so easily! I'm not his maid! Konan thought desperately, but her face only grew hotter.

"Kamui!"

Once more, the vortex swallowed them.

"Oi! Mask-faced old man! How long are you planning to run?"

Hidan and Konan reappeared directly behind Hanzo. Hidan's voice rang out like a taunt.

Konan buried her face, mortified...being carried in his arms like this was already bad enough, but him shouting so brazenly made her blush even more.

If he's this shameless now… what will it be like if I really become his maid…?

The thought made her heart skip, her mind spiraling. For now, at least, she could be grateful that he was still just a boy in body.

What Konan didn't realize was that Hidan was built different...truly one of a kind. And she was about to find out the 'hard' way.

Hanzo's expression twisted. For the first time, someone had appeared right behind him without him sensing it. His eyes narrowed sharply, locking on the silver-haired boy carrying Konan.
