Chapter 81 - Chapter 80: Ibiki’s Classroom of Suffering

Not only were the other candidates unable to endure it—even the students from the Insect and Hound sections, Shino and Kiba, felt a wave of secondhand embarrassment rise inside them.

Both silently reached the same conclusion:

Our teacher is too shameless. We need to keep our distance unless we want our reputation destroyed with him.

Compared to the bewilderment and dissatisfaction spreading among normal candidates, there were always a few… special ones.

One such idiot actually copied Hidan's earlier behavior.

Chest puffed out, exam paper held proudly above his head, he strode right up to Morino Ibiki with a grin so bright it almost hurt.

"I finished! If I got even one question wrong, hehe…"

He didn't notice the dark cloud forming in Ibiki's eyes.

But the rest of the exam room did—every candidate stared at him with barely disguised amusement.

Go ahead, genius. Keep bragging. Let's see how long you last.

The idiot's nose was practically pointed upward. He thought only one thing:

If that guy can stand out, why can't I? No— I'll show everyone I'm even better. They'll see I'm the strongest candidate here.

Ibiki's smile curled into something sharp and unfriendly.

He was the Head of Torture and Interrogation.

Since when could just anyone walk up and act cocky in front of him?

Others earned respect with real strength.

This fool had none—and to make matters worse, he was irritating.

It was like he came here begging to be knocked out.

All the examinees watched Ibiki's face harden and lowered their heads in advance mourning for the doomed boy.

Three seconds later, exactly what they expected happened.

"Psychic: Torture Chamber!"

Ibiki slammed down his technique.

Instantly, the classroom echoed with the rattle of chains and cold, metallic echoes.

An interrogation room materialized—lined with blood-stained tools and suffocating dread.

The idiot was swallowed inside and vanished.

Hidan blinked.

He honestly didn't expect someone would actually provoke Morino Ibiki.

Does that guy have no regard for his own survival?

And Hidan still felt zero responsibility for inspiring such foolish behavior.

Why would he?

He didn't consider himself in the same league as these kids at all.

They're just brats. I'm built different.

…never mind that he himself was only sixteen.

Then another voice rang out:

"We're not convinced! Why treat us differently?!"

Hidan stared again.

Seriously? More of them?

He turned his head and saw two more idiots—wearing the same forehead protectors as the first one—standing up with puffed chests.

"So it was a whole squad," Hidan muttered. "No wonder they all have the same level of brainpower."

Every other examinee stared at them like they were watching a car crash in slow motion.

This is going to be good.

Ibiki did not disappoint.

With a single shunshin, he appeared in front of them and kicked both straight across the room.

They were so unskilled it was laughable—barely low-tier genin.

Without hesitation, he grabbed them by their collars and threw them straight out the window.

Then he turned back to the room, his expression pitch-black:

"Is there anyone else who isn't convinced?"

Silence.

Absolute, perfect silence.

The rest of the candidates were actual examinees—people with functioning reasoning.

Those three earlier… were clearly something else entirely.

"Hmph." Ibiki snorted. "If you don't have the strength to back it up, don't attempt things beyond your ability. That's a fatal mistake for a shinobi. Consider that your warning."

But his words made certain candidates react—especially Gaara from Sunagakure and several Oto-nin. Their gazes immediately shifted toward Hidan.

Gaara whispered:

"The corresponding strength…? He must be dangerous."

None of them were fools.

Ibiki had just hinted—loudly—that Hidan's power was above his own.

Enough to earn special treatment.

In their minds, that meant only one thing:

Hidan was the strongest threat in this exam.

They memorized his face instantly.

The smartest move was now obvious: avoid him at all cost.

If even the proctor didn't want to pick a fight with him…

Just how terrifying was he?

Hidan noticed the stares and instantly became annoyed.

He had planned to stay low-profile—keep his cards hidden until needed.

Classic shinobi strategy.

But thanks to Ibiki loudly exposing him, how was he supposed to keep pretending to be harmless?

Now everyone viewed him as some monster lurking under the surface.

No one would step up to challenge him in the upcoming rounds.

His entire element of surprise was gone.

He turned and glared at Ibiki hard.

This was entirely that guy's fault. Not mine. Never mine.

He had the arrogance befitting someone favored by an evil deity:

If I say you're wrong, you're wrong.

Ibiki suddenly felt a cold shiver.

He looked up and saw Hidan staring at him with a "I'm going to eat you alive" expression.

His face collapsed into pure bitterness.

Why me? What did I do to deserve this look?!

He quickly lowered his head and obediently continued filling out Hidan's exam sheet.

He wasn't worried about Hidan attacking him…

He was worried about Hidan ruining the entire exam out of irritation.

And this exam wasn't just for Konoha—many minor nations sent genin, and even Sunagakure was participating.

This was a political showcase of the next generation's strength.

If anything went wrong, it could strain relations between the two nations.

That was the last thing Ibiki wanted.

After a few minutes, Ibiki finished and handed the completed exam back to Hidan. Each question was answered neatly.

Ibiki secretly exhaled in relief.

Thank goodness I wrote these questions myself. If I didn't know the answers, I would've been done for.

"Hm." Hidan responded casually, taking the paper and losing interest immediately.

The only reason he made Ibiki fill it out was boredom— and mild revenge.

Hidan knew something important:

Ibiki hadn't revealed his final "test" yet.

The written exam itself meant nothing.

The last question, the one Ibiki would announce at the end, was the true challenge of the entire written phase.

And Hidan was already waiting for it.
