Chapter 35 - Something Unexpected

The array kept killing spirit beasts. We reached a grand total of sixty thousand points. That meant we had earned at least one hundred million Qi stones.

We had planned to leave as soon as someone arrived, but it had been more than twenty hours. No one came. This could only mean two things: either they were stuck in the random arrays longer than I expected, or they were fighting.

Fighting was common in inheritances, especially competitive ones, and this was the most likely case. Feng Lian had the best array master in Velora.

If this were before, I would've worried, but now Gu Xue had already reached perfection in Core Formation. Still, she didn't listen to my warning and kept using beast cores.

I'm sure she has some way to remove the backlash… because she's a "normal citizen," heh.

Unknowing to Gu Chuan, both Feng Lian and Gu Xue were facing something completely different.

Gu Xue's Side

After I passed the slow Feng Lian's group, I thought that even though it wouldn't affect him too much, it would at least hurt his ego a little.

But something unexpected happened.

Feng Lian smiled and said,

"Looks like there's no need for us to compete. You are incomparably stronger than me."

The area around us changed into a starry sky.

The void started cracking. One by one, people stepped out of the fractures. They were at least Nascent Soul, but a few had an aura even stronger.

Then the largest crack appeared.

A person stepped out.

"A person from the ….. realm… what is your purpose in coming to the Transcend Star System?"

He was an old man, but his aura was far above the rest. He was undoubtedly at the peak of the second step.

Cultivation is divided into steps. Each step has major and minor realms.

First Step:

Qi Condensing

Foundation Establishment

Core Formation

Just like that, the second step also had three major realms.

And the old man in front of me was at the peak of the third realm of the second step.

"I don't know what you're talking about," I tried to play dumb.

But—

"This won't work on me. You can fool Nascent Soul and ….. cultivators, but not me with your current cultivation."

He looked at me calmly.

He continued,

"You knew this inheritance was a trap. You knew we could hear your mind, yet you still gave us information. What's the meaning of this?"

"I thought you were just some Nascent Soul criminals. But to think someone of your caliber would come to meet me…" I said.

"You can even read our thoughts… looks like I underestimated you," he replied.

Then he asked,

"Tell me your real purpose here."

This time, he released his cultivation pressure.

He wasn't joking anymore.

"Using this against me? Do you really think that just because I don't have my cultivation, you have a chance to attack me?"

I snapped my fingers.

In an instant, the entire Transcend Star System was under a million times the pressure.

"I didn't use the pressure on mortals or first-step cultivators. Complete this request, and I will promise that the Transcend Star System will be a part of ….."

I began explaining my plan.
