Chapter 26 - SABOTAGES

After Lorenzo disappeared, I noticed small drops of blood on the floor. The staff would clean it in the morning. They were trained not to ask questions. But I didn't want them to see it.

I found cleaning supplies under the kitchen sink. I knelt on the floor, and began to clean.

When I finished, I washed my hands as I stared at myself in the mirror.

Two days ago, I was a bride on a honeymoon I didn't want. Now I was a mafia wife who cleaned up blood without flinching.

Next morning, when I came out of my room, the penthouse was empty. Lorenzo was gone already. I found a note on the kitchen counter.

Had to oversee cleanup. Back by evening. And Serafina? Thank you for understanding.

Like I'd done him some kind of favor.

The next few days felt awkward. It wasn't that we didn't talk. We did. But something had changed between us. He knew that I knew what he was capable of. And more importantly, I knew that I was capable of accepting it.
