Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: The only one who knows

"We need to talk about what happens next."

Sarah had arrived at the clinic a few days after Isabella woke up. I'd called her despite Damien's warnings, despite our suspicions. Because right now, we needed all the help we could get.

The three of us sat in the small office, exhausted, Damien alert and watchful, Sarah as composed and professional as ever.

"Isabella has complete amnesia," I said, my voice flat. "She doesn't remember anything. Not me, not Brighton, not the evidence she spent eight years compiling."

Sarah's expression was carefully neutral. "Dr. said there's a chance the memories could return."

"There's also a chance they won't." I looked at both of them. "Which means we have a problem. If Brighton finds out she has amnesia, that she can't testify or authenticate the evidence"

"He'll come after us harder," Sarah finished. "Right now, he thinks she's a threat. A witness who can bring him down. If he learns she's no longer a threat..." She didn't finish the sentence.
