Chapter 1 - The arrangement

Allison Richardson sat up in her little desk as it freaked tiredly. She tapped it fondly. It had been her place for a long time. This desk. It had been the passage to her world, to her characters, her relief when she had to run away from reality. She really enjoyed building her characters, building her world's, complicating plots. It was all just so much fun. She was gradually rising to fame. She smiled to her self at the thought of it. Soon her books would hit the market big and sell so well.

She would finally get to make her mother proud and help relief the stress on her brother. Her mama would finally get to wear expensive accessories and maybe, just maybe she could get to open a boutique for her. Her biggest dream.

Her phone rang loudly, snapping her out of her thoughts. She looked at the screen. It was her best friend Carl Wornom. She smiled as she picked up the phone.

"Hello stranger" she said smiling.

"Hello best friend." He replied and she could hear the smile in his voice. They had always been like this and people often wondered why they had chosen to be of all things, best friends, considering their lives and most of all, difference in their background. Their family background were opposite.

"So you called me. How may I help you?" She said trying to sound professional.

"See. Let's meet at our usual spot. The cafe ok?. At five." He said. His voice sounded brisk. The way it always sounded when he had information to share.

"Ok see you then. At five."

The line went dead. She looked at her screen. It was past four already.

She walked into the cafe at past five and sighted him sitting waiting impatiently. She walked over to him.

"Late as usual" he complained tilting his head.

"No. I'm not. It's just a few minutes past five o' clock." She countered defending herself.

"Which means you are a few minutes late.'

"Come of it Carl."

"No I wont. You should have been here before five." He folded his arms and leaned back on his seat. Seeing him like this, so handsome, it reminded her of her crush on him.

"So, you should be punished." He tilted his head looking even more willingly attractive. She swallowed.

"Now Carl, wouldn't you call the waiter to take our orders?"

"No I wouldn't." He said. "I wouldn't until you apologise properly."

"And who the hell do you think you are?"

He smiled knowingly

"Your best friend and your contract manager."

She smilled as it dawned on her. Little wonders he had sounded so brisk and excited.

" You have been given the contract baby." He said excitedly. Her eyes widened in disbelief. "And guess what?. It calls for celebration."

"It really does. But i do have an idea I have been thinking about. Am not so sure about it though."

He leaned forward towards her.

"I was thinking." He nodded, encouraging her. She continued. "I was thinking could I write a spin-off of your brother's book?"

"A spin-off of one of my brother's book?" He asked. Then nodded thoughtfully. Then smiled.

"That's great. When do we start?."

She looked at him. Her eyes lit up. He obviously loved the idea. Imagine, he thought it was great.

"As soon as we get your brother's approval. You know, I cant write a spin-off of his book without his permission."

He smilled.

"We are writing a proposal then." He said simply.

"What the??" She asked shocked.

"Yeah." He replied calling out for the waiter.
