Chapter 27 - Prelude to New Life

"Get the sail!"

The Tempest Tide was a pirate ship that had been almost two thousand years old. An old man with red eyes walked on it with his crew. He found the ship in a cave. Who put it there was begone on him. There were psychics and cyborgs, buffoons and geniuses. The sail was being torn to bits as they traveled through time at what was at least, the speed of light.

"Anyone got a light?"

Dr. John was the ship's third mate. He had blonde hair that went to his shoulder blades and was a real jerk most of the time. Though, BB had let him get the rank of third mate and he used his power to keep the ship on course, and his payment was bumping cigarettes off other his crewmates.

"Get back to work. I don't pay you to smoke on the job."

"You don't pay me with anything except for smoking on the job."

"Exactly."

Both of them were yelling at one another before a ten-year-old dressed like a girl scout came out to back up Lia, the one at the rat's nest who was about to get blown to the stone age. Upon closer look, the girl scout had a knife in their mouth.

"Both of you get Sugar out of the nets!"

That little girl was in fact, Scott. The dictator had figured out some necromancy before his death at age 69. When any of his descendants died, he took over their bodies. Sadly, his thirty second granddaughter got hit by a time machine and then he had to wait until a kid could come along that looked like him to be restored fully.

"Don't order around your captain!"

"Drop the ego, BB. It makes you look bad in front of the troops."

Lia was holding onto the net that led to the rat's nest as she blew in the high wind like a flag on a rainy day. Her hair was wrapped and knotting into itself before Scott got close to her.

"Help me, please!"

"Will you let me have your fruit snacks? I know you're hiding some."

"Yes? How did you know I was hiding fruit snacks?"

Scott took her hand and jumped into the rat's nest before pulling the girl in with him. She had black hair and wore a dress worthy of a baroness and had jet brown hair on her head and brown eyes that were sunken.

"You're welcome."

Down below, Sugar was nearly being blown away into the space time continuum before his wrist was grabbed by the well-tanned and golden-haired doctor. He was pulled from the nets on the side of the ship. BB took a towel and wiped him down before the two took him to be tended to.

"We need to fix the shielding."

"We need a better engine."

John's treatment began with assessment. He saw that he had a broken rib and had a torn wrist that ripped some skin off. The kid would live, but it would hurt.

"Please don't make this hurt."

"I will, just because you asked."

Like a cat, Dr. John grabbed Sugar's wrist and poked the exposed muscle tissue on his wrist. With some supernatural means and the use of a very hot poker, he cauterized the wound and began chanting until new skin began to grow out of it. The wound was beginning to heal so fast, and the outside crew was beginning to get control of the ship. The Tempest Tide would stay afloat as they ended up in the Mediterranean Sea.

"Why are we even here?"

"To save the world."

"Pardon?"

BB had seemed mad in those days. Perhaps he was when you know who he is. Scott was certainly believing his friend lost his marbles. Though, most of the people had

"How do you know it's going to end? Maybe you're just nuts."

BB pulled up a piece of crinkled paper. It was folded between his fingers and was used for reading a thousand and one times, maybe more.

"This note was left on my nightstand the night before a group of raiders hit Backtown and nothing makes me sure of it more than the visions I had."

"Visions?"

"Yes, there were roughly three of them with two happening on the night of their arrival and one on the night of us getting this ship."

"What did you see in these visions."

Dr. John and Sugar were already out as Scott was hurrying down to the food storage in order to get Lia's fruit snacks. Lia on the other hand was trying to get down but ended up falling and hitting Sugar.

"Why are you even lookout?"

She had poor vision. It was 20/200. In lack of better words, she was almost as blind as a bat and needed a telescope to see what was basically right in front of her.

"Because I'm too nice to be the one who shaves off barnacles."
