Chapter 17 - Escaping the Family

BB had beaten his father with a fake victory in a battle of wits. Though, Dials was still scheming away, and he was still stuck in Backtown after what felt like a thousand years. For some reason, he was feeling under a lot of pressure as the radio host who wrote poetry was gone and the prized fighter of the pit had escaped as well. Now, the leader of the prison was gone, and the newspaper had been leaked the information about the Appalachian Butcher coming back after half a thousand years.

"He's got us bugged and he might plan on leaking our conversation to the papers or doing something worse. But the latter is unlikely."

"The one about getting us out?"

"Yes."

"Why don't we do something?"

"I plan on doing nothing."

Alexandria's eyes widened at her friend's statement. He was smart enough to make it go away. He was already hated as corruption in the prison ran rampant. His reputation as the Appalachian Butcher would have him working as a footstool or perhaps as a man who walked into walked by cars at stop lights and began to clean them for spare change. Those men were usually the worst. They worked twenty-four seven. Never slept unless the guard had left them alone long enough.

"Why is that? Do we just abandon all hope?"

"Because unlike my father, I leaked it to the papers. He likes to blackmail so I said to Hell with it. Though, with proper interrogation skills curtesy of our one and only General Sears, we got some journalists to make it look like we were afraid for our lives and that Father was trying to silence us and is an evil dictator."

It was obvious he was in a good mood and had even straightened his posture. He walked with a slight limp as some shrapnel had ended up in his leg a while back, but ODETTA was able to remove it before anything like infection had gotten a hold on him. Despite that, he still didn't trust her, and he liked her less.

"How are we going to get out of here? That's the real question we need to be asking! We need to figure this out because Dials placed a ban on bomb vest scouts and we still need to leave. What can I do? I don't like being a guard, I'll do anything. It's too still for my tastes."

"Very well then, it's a simple job. You go out today and let everyone out of their cells and toss them the keys to the armory. Dials will be busy and we'll be free."

"But he'll be expecting that. First Joey and Scott go out and then you kill his men. We need to bide our time. Especially if we want Mistress and Sears to get out of here."

He smiled with his dimples showing. It was obvious he was trying to look cool. Though, he just looked like a kid in a candy store as he was going to bask in the carnage of his own creation.

"See, he'll know about the murders but if a riot happens, he'll think they'll do it. Then, we fake our deaths. Hundreds of people go out as well and some parts of the city will be unrecognizable with the bodies being even less; we just got to escape out that way."

"How exactly are we going to be getting out of the city when this Hell on earth is happening? You can barely walk right, none the less fight anyone."

"Sears and Mistress can handle that part."
