BB decided to punch the DA in the chest before he realized that he had been caught and wouldn't make it. One thing crossed through his mind; he found himself thinking of Lia. I never told Alexandria about the world she helped build. Should I? She never saw a child of her own so maybe she would be horrified at the sight of such a creature. Should I even feel bad? For all I know, she would've been over the moon when she found out. Oh well, all she has left is Scott. Now, I'm slowly losing consciousness on a bathroom floor. Alexandria is probably going to be over in a few hours. I failed. I failed everyone in my life and I failed everything; it doesn't matter now.
"Just go to sleep. Nobody is going to have to hear the noises of your pain or you're suffering. I'm helping you. Guess what, you're my first man so this is going to be a shocking experience for both of us."
"You did this to yourself. A second chance was all you wanted and now you're getting another one. Anything to keep it. How selfish of you."
Sugar was in the room with them; he looked normal and was in good health. He looked like what BB imagined him to look like as a grown man. BB knew he was hallucinating, and he knew that no matter what he did in his life he was simply going to die with a guilty conscience. Well, he could get around it by blaming Dials for all his problems.
"ODETTA! Save me!"
I'm so pathetic. Giving all of myself to another in a time like this is so pathetic. If I could change something in my life, it would be to never have stepped into the TODD. BB found himself shedding a tear as Sugar smiled over him. All of BB's other victims had come forward and smiled up at him. He wanted to be cared for and perhaps the worst people for the situation were best for his moral.
"Just hearing your pain is so, beautiful. Like a symphony!"
"What in the flying fuck is that?"
"The person who's going to save my ass."
The grip on BB's neck lessened and he quickly scurried away as the door opened to Mistress who lunged out and proceeded to slam the DA all around the bathroom before eventually, she was done and dragged BB back. He was panting and sweaty when he was lying on the heavy metal floors. His eyes bulged but swiftly reentered their sockets when he caught his breath.
"Thanks, I believe that I owe you a favor for future endeavors. Just make sure to remind me sometime soon."
"No need. I know that you'd do the same for me and would never have done something like what he did. Are you hungry? I feel like getting food."
"Right, I'll be in my room if you need me."
BB went to his room in the ODETTA and sat there looking up at the ceiling. The room was more like a prison cell as it had been there for the sake of keeping BB in place and in setup. BB had seen Sears and Scott's rooms. Those two had made their rooms around a certain time. Sears from his time in Vietnam and Scott from his time in the bathroom. But BB, was a blank prisoner of the ODETTA. A tear came to BB's eye. He was a fake person. Someone who put on his mask every morning just as easily as his clothes and he took it off so seamlessly that you would think of it as easy to do as a mask. He realized that when he sat in ODETTA. It's for the plan. Don't lie to yourself. I'm a monster.
"You look sad, and sadder than usual. That's really saying something."
Sears had walked towards BB after the group left the bowling alley. BB was so shell shocked that he completely forgot about the likes of Alexandria and the DA. His face was cut, and his left eye was swollen shut. He was pretty sure that if he had run his hands through his long hair, he would find some glass shards, and he still had bruises on his neck. But he would survive no less.
"I've been doing some thinking."
"Really? Aren't you always doing that? Given the fact that you're our residential genius."
"You were in Vietnam, right? I think I saw something about it in your room."
Sears's face tightened as he remembered the world of which he saw. Pain, death, and the creativity behind becoming a killer.
"What makes you curious about all that?"
"Did you ever try to settle down once you got out of the service? I know you went back into the job later, but was there ever any peace?"
"Yes. I became a steel worker. But there was just this... this rot inside me. I wanted to fight people. It began with anyone who argued with me and changed to me getting into fights with people. I needed it. My life just couldn't function without it. Then, a mercenary group showed up in need of a leader."
BB never met Sears's gaze. His face was pointed towards the ground with nothing but emptiness. He was a coward who failed.
"Do you know of BTK?"
"Didn't he kill those families in that one Kansas town?"
"Yeah."
"What does he have to do with Vietnam?"
BB had felt the heat of everything on his shoulders. All of his life was just sitting there. All of his unlife was sitting there.
"He killed people and then spent the next twenty-five years of his life as a family man. Such a crazy person. But I might see that in myself. A bad person who throws on a mask for some time and then pulls it off."
After Sears left the conversation, Scott came by and BB had remembered Alexandria and what other acts of barbarity the DA was going to be doing.
"Hey sailor."
"I need to go back."
