Sure enough, the fuzzy supernatural phenomenon crept up onto his soul.
Goosebumps rose as Yoichi relished in the newfound sense, instinctively cleansing all the harmful effects at a slower but steady rate.
As if like a baby cradled into its mother's gentle embrace, Yoichi's mind felt a euphoric sensation. Bare naked and eyes closed, savoring this ambiguous yet breathtaking experience.
Until it gradually evaporated.
For a while, Yoichi's eyelids fluttered and when he opened his eyes, the surroundings felt much clearer with vivid clarity. Unbeknownst to him, in the quiet corner of his heart, a pang of expectation and regret came back.
"What..." Yoichi blinked, then the clarity soon faded away from his eyesight, back again to reality.
Is this... Haaahh. What a wonderful feeling. Yoichi let out a soft sigh.
"Soul Eater... This is truly something special." Yoichi muttered, quite couldn't put a finger on that magical occurrence.
Earlier, what Yoichi felt was a transcendental marvel, something that the human mind can't comprehend.
"I don't want to be addicted to it, but that resplendence... That sank through my soul and cleansed my anxiety all along these times..." Yoichi's eyes softened before he deeply pondered.
What actually provoked my ability?
Thinking about it, Yoichi noticed bustling ants as he recalled that it was certainly his previous spot, jumping with excitement earlier ago.
"Every lifeform... Isn't this a little bit overpowered?" Yoichi cupped his chin. "Or is there something that I quite don't get?"
When he considered it, the idea made sense. After that, Yoichi sat down and pinched another ant to study his indistinct and vague speculation.
But again, the notification prompt hadn't been plastered in his profile, making him somewhat puzzled again about its unspecified condition.
"Do each ant actually have a soul? Maybe I should kill another insect since there's a possibility that each type of lifeform has a sense of soul."
Quickly catching up with his indefinite opinion, Yoichi then went outside to look for another insect to be a subject of his groundless assertion.
Since it was summer season, cicadas popped out from left to right. The discordant chirps of these insects made them a suitable target for him.
And it didn't take too long for Yoichi to catch a cicada.
"Hmmm," Yoichi paused, looking at the unlucky and struggling cicada.
*Crick!*
Like breaking a branch, Yoichi easily squashed the cicada by hand.
「Soul Power +1」
Afterwards, the same phenomenon overflowed onto his soul once more.
For a while, Yoichi stood up and lingered before the enigmatic effect faded away. Head arching backwards, Yoichi's face lit up as each clue to the puzzle became clear, connecting one by one with remarkable coherence.
"So that's how it is... Each lifeform had a certain soul and couldn't be used up for the second time!" Yoichi's eyes opened, slowly returning to the house.
Soul Eater had a stringent yet simple requirement. When the user killed a lifeform, the soul of the slain enemy would be plundered and granting the user a permanent increase in soul power and perception.
However, based on Yoichi's theory, lifeforms like insects or animals couldn't be consumed for a second time. Since there are many lifeforms with various characteristics and distinctive genetics, this stacking type of ability would be narrowed down in the near future.
For example, Yoichi killed an ant in his first kill. Now, any kind of ant related to the ant he killed will be excluded.
These include red ants or winged ants. All classifications of ants will now be banned from his Soul Eater index.
"I guess also cicadas are kept out of my concern now..."With that being said, Yoichi's consideration rose once more as he tucked himself into the bed with a pondering expression.
What if I killed a human? Is there a troubling flood of memories or... Ahh! Another trouble is for tomorrow!
Soon, Yoichi closed his eyes and immediately fell asleep soundly.
No matter how addictive he felt, his ideals stayed the same. Only time and fate can tell if he ever found himself in a state of madness and slaughter.
...
...
...
Warm yellow sunlight streamed onto his face as Yoichi gradually woke up.
Tidying up the bed, brushing teeth, cooking breakfast, having a warm cup of water, and showering were all part of his daily tasks that felt boring but at the same time, relatively natural.
After his everyday routine was completed, Yoichi dressed in his usual casual attire and locked the door.
Currently, it was Sunday, a time for a regular visit to the Uchiha Compound.
At first, he was a little bit repulsive due to the mockery before he became numb to such verbal abuse and caricatures. Yoichi hadn't been a child to endure insults like that yet he had just become accustomed to them.
Some Uchiha clansmen felt angry while others were happy for him.
That's the cycle of human nature that Yoichi slowly found out and had been part of his realistic approach towards society and its overly complicated systems.
"Kohaku-sama. Good morning!" Yoichi greeted, looking at the clan's leader.
"Oh, Yoichi! Good to know you're here!" Kohaku responded casually.
At this point, Kohaku's perception of Yoichi cemented. Incredible results after an outstanding performance, who the hell wouldn't be happy as a leader of the infamous Uchiha Clan?
"Do you need anything? Just tell me and I'll consider it." Kohaku knew that Yoichi merely came here for the benefits so he subtly reminded the child.
"About that... I'm not here for that." Yoichi stared blankly then said, "I'm here to visit my mother."
Although Yoichi sounded a little bit gentle, Kohaku was totally puzzled until his emotional psyche filled in all the details.
Possibly, he's here to reconcile with his mother... I get it now.
"Well then, make yourself at home." Kohaku awkwardly smiled before he left with a serene expression.
Seeing Kohaku's silhouette, Yoichi sighed and then eventually walked ahead. Thanks to his sudden lucidity of mind, he felt that there was a chance to mediate along with his mother's undisguised hatred for him.
What he genuinely recognized in yesterday's phenomenon was to slowly attune himself to his emotions and realize how to let go of his anger.
It sounded like unmanly and partially expressive at some point but the unruly curse of hatred was ingrained into his bloodline and sanity.
If he couldn't solve this predicament, this ticking time bomb might hurt someone else he cared for in the process. So, he decided to conform to his mercurial sentiments and broke his pragmatism in a brief moment.
Before he could dominate the world, he had to get out of his comfort zone and immersed in a temporary state of instability.
