Chapter 41 - The Heir Awakens

The arena was a roaring sea of voices. Thousands of students filled the stands, banners of every class fluttering in the morning wind. Above them, the mana domes shimmered like liquid glass, sealing the air with anticipation.

This was it — the final round of the Inter-Class Tournament.

Class D versus Class A.

And standing at the center of it all, under the blinding white light of the mana array, was Lee Shin.

He could feel hundreds of eyes boring into him — some in awe, some in hatred, most in disbelief.

A month ago, he had been nothing but a weakling with a trembling mana core.

Now, the whispers called him the "Dark Horse of Class D," the boy who had defeated everyone placed before him — C-rank, B-rank, even an A-rank cadet.

But this opponent… was different.

Standing across from him was his half-brother, Lee Rion — the golden heir, the pride of the family, and the one who had cheated his way into Class A.

Rion stood with a calm, smug smile, the emblem of Class A glowing on his chest.

"Well, well. I didn't expect you to crawl this far," Rion said, voice smooth with venom. "Tell me, Shin — do you actually think you belong here?"

Shin said nothing.

The faint wind brushed through his hair. The ring pulsed once — slow, deliberate, alive.

The instructor raised his hand. "Final match of the tournament! Lee Shin of Class D versus Lee Rion of Class A! Combatants ready—"

Rion smirked, drawing his sword. "Don't die too quickly, little brother."

Shin raised his training blade, eyes calm. "I should say the same."

The whistle shrieked.

Rion moved first — faster than anyone in the audience could track. His sword flashed, a storm of golden mana swirling around him. Lightning arced across the arena floor as he lunged forward, aiming for Shin's chest.

Shin barely blocked. The impact threw him back several meters, skidding across the sand.

Rion laughed. "You're still slow. Some things never change."

Shin straightened slowly, wiping the blood from his lip. "Maybe. But some things do."

He dashed forward — not as fast as Rion, but sharp, precise. Every movement refined through endless repetition.

When Rion's sword came down again, Shin twisted his wrist and redirected the strike, their blades clashing with a sound like cracking thunder.

The crowd roared. Mana flared. Sparks danced around them.

Shin's body screamed with strain, but the ring pulsed again — harder.

He felt something shift inside him. The world sharpened. His heartbeat slowed.

Every move Rion made, every twitch of his shoulders, every flick of mana — Shin could see it before it happened.

Rion's sword sliced horizontally — Shin ducked.

Rion tried to feint — Shin parried.

Then, Shin struck. A clean counter, fast enough to send Rion stumbling back.

The crowd gasped.

"What the hell—?!" Rion hissed, eyes flashing with fury. "You little—"

He poured more mana into his sword, the air around him crackling. The floor beneath him splintered as lightning burst out.

Shin braced himself.

"You think you can beat me? You're nothing but a stain on our family name!" Rion shouted, charging forward with all his strength.

The words stabbed deep. But Shin's face remained calm.

"Maybe," he said quietly. "But even stains don't disappear so easily."

Their blades collided again. For a moment, time froze. The mana dome above them rippled, unable to contain the force.

Then — the ring blazed.

A crimson light erupted from Shin's hand, swirling around his arm like molten fire. The impact shattered Rion's mana shield. The explosion of power threw both of them back, sand and smoke filling the arena.

The crowd screamed. Instructors stood, shouting to stabilize the barrier.

Through the haze, Shin slowly stood, panting — the ring burning with a deep red glow.

"What… what is that?" someone in the stands whispered.

"Mana resonance… no, that's something else—"

"Is he even human?"

Shin didn't hear them. He only felt the power flooding through him — familiar, ancient, and terrifying.

The heir has awakened.

The voice echoed in his skull, heavy and calm.

Rion staggered to his feet, eyes wide. "What are you…?"

Shin's gaze was cold. "Something you'll never understand."

He lifted his sword. The crimson aura surged around him, forming spectral chains of light that wrapped the air itself. The arena trembled. Even the instructors felt the pressure.

Rion screamed and swung again, desperate. Shin moved — faster than sight. One strike, clean and final.

The shockwave ripped through the field, extinguishing every mana light in the dome.

When the dust cleared, Rion lay unconscious at Shin's feet — his sword broken in half.

Silence. Total, absolute silence.

Then, Instructor Rho's voice broke the stillness. "Winner… Lee Shin of Class D."

The entire academy erupted into chaos.

Students shouted. Teachers rushed forward. Class D screamed in disbelief.

And above it all, Shin stood still — eyes distant, chest heaving.

The ring's light dimmed slowly, the ancient warmth fading.

From the VIP stands, Nonna stood frozen, tears in her eyes. She whispered softly to herself,

"Little brother… what have you become?"

High above, even the Guild Masters who'd come to spectate were whispering to one another. The seal on Shin's power had cracked — and the symbol glowing faintly on his hand was unmistakable.

It was the sigil of the Forgotten Heir.

The same crest that had vanished with Ryu Min-Seok's death seven years ago.

The arena began to shake from the rising mana storm around Shin. He fell to one knee, clutching his chest as his vision blurred. Voices merged into static.

He could barely breathe.

"Not yet…" he muttered weakly. "I'm not ready yet…"

The ring glowed once more, whispering,

"The heirs converge. Prepare, child of the cycle."

And then, darkness took him.

As he fell, the last thing he saw was Ahra — his daughter — running toward him through the crowd, her voice trembling as she called out,

"Appa…?"

The ring pulsed faintly in response.

When the dust finally settled, the academy stood in stunned silence.

The Inter-Class Tournament was over.

Class D had risen above all.

And in the center of that ruined arena, the legend of Ryu Min-Seok — reborn as Lee Shin — had finally begun anew.
