Chapter 2 - 2 – Death x Rebirth

As Kevin learned the name, some memories began to surface in his mind, including the recognition of text.

"I can't read the words… but I can directly understand what is being said."

For a moment, he didn't know what was happening with his memories, or rather, with the memories that belonged to his original self.

He continued rummaging through the wallet in his hand, trying his best to find relevant information based on his recognition of the font.

Identification documents, bank cards, and some strange, incomprehensible cards.

However, from these cards and documents, he still learned some information.

For example, "he" came from a country called Kukan'yu Kingdom.

Very well. He had never heard of it.

But it must be a great nation.

Huh? Why would I know that?

When the name Kukan'yu Kingdom came to mind, more memories began to surface again.

This body was like someone with amnesia, needing stimulation. And now he, controlling this body, could recall things when stimulated.

Was this situation normal?

It should be normal, right?

What else could he do?

Kevin made the best of a bad situation. He needed to learn more about himself and this world.

He couldn't help but look at the pile of clothes he had changed out of in the corner, thinking that rummaging through them might help him recall more.

No sooner said than done.

He immediately took action.

Sure enough, he found many tattered gaps and holes in the clothes, all stained with blood.

However, the more he looked, the more something felt off.

Did these marks really look like he had fallen from a mountain?

He saw several very smooth tears, so smooth they looked as if they had been cut with scissors or a sharp blade.

When this thought appeared, the clothes looked more and more suspicious.

Wait a minute. How did "I" die?

"You found something wrong, didn't you?"

"!"

The sudden voice from behind startled Kevin, and he turned around in horror to look at the man from earlier.

He didn't know when the man had appeared behind him. He hadn't made a sound or any movement.

Looking at Kevin, who was clearly startled, the man scratched his hedgehog-like hair.

"Sorry, I scared you. But I've been thinking and have too many questions I want to ask you.

I don't have much time, so I'll be direct."

What?

At this moment, Kevin, having regained his composure, wore a bewildered expression.

He had just stabilized himself and just wanted to gather more information, but the man's words plunged him back into confusion and panic.

"My name is Ging. Ging Freecss."

Ging said, introducing himself.

Kevin instinctively nodded.

"I killed you. I killed you with my own hands."

"Huh?"

Kevin was bewildered.

What the hell? Is he suddenly dropping such shocking information?

Facing Kevin's confusion, Ging had no intention of stopping and continued.

"We were enemies, so I killed you. But when I was about to dispose of your body, your injuries healed.

I had confirmed your death at the time. So when you came back to life, I knew something was wrong. Such a phenomenon is not common, and it's somewhat different from what I knew before.

So I brought you back to see if you would wake up."

No, buddy. Isn't the amount of information in your words a bit too much?

Ging's sudden monologue made Kevin's head spin, as if a massive amount of information had been poured into his mind.

Everything he had just thought and planned was washed away by that statement.

Indeed, some fragments began to flash in his mind, as if he had been fighting the man in front of him.

Only the fragments were blurry, merely confirming that what Ging said might be true.

As these memories surfaced, Kevin couldn't help but touch his body, feeling the places where the wounds had healed, as if pain still lingered there.

Wait. No.

"You just said you've seen other cases of resurrection? More than once?"

Kevin grasped the key point. Could this happen multiple times?

Was it that common?

According to the blurry memories from the battle, this world seemed slightly off.

"You admit it. It seems my earlier guess was correct. You have some awareness or understanding of your current situation.

Judging by your reaction, you don't seem to understand it completely, hmm…"

At this point, Ging seemed to ponder for a moment, then said,

"It's like seeing a dragon in a work of art but never believing that dragons exist in the real world. But when you actually see a similar creature, you apply the name 'dragon' to it."

After finishing his self-indulgent explanation, Ging looked at Kevin.

"You are horrified by your current body. That kind of reaction doesn't seem like amnesia. It's more like another soul, or another consciousness, has entered the current body."

Everything was spot on.

Are you some kind of master detective?

The entire external environment suddenly felt oppressive, and this situation paradoxically calmed the bewildered Kevin. His brain began working rapidly.

He recalled that brief moment after he woke up.

His performance at the time had indeed been poor, but that was understandable. No one experiencing such a thing could immediately calm down and make rational judgments.

And the man in front of him had held absolute dominance from the start. He had been guiding him all along.

Including his manner of speaking, the deliberate pauses, and even the mirror that just happened to reflect his face.

There were many details he hadn't even noticed, all of which could have been intentional.

This man had meticulously planned everything.

His worries were meaningless. It had been the worst-case scenario from beginning to end.

And his current predicament was…

Kevin couldn't help but look up.

Ging looked at him without urging him, as quiet as if he were waiting for him to finish thinking.

"Whew."

Kevin exhaled.

Meaningless.

He had killed the former "him," and the fragmented memories in his mind had already proven his combat prowess.

As for Kevin's control over this body and its fighting skills, he was absolutely not proficient.

And in terms of intelligence, the person in front of him was clearly no fool.

One could even say Kevin himself seemed like a fool in comparison.

Whether it was resurrection or the terms consciousness and soul, all of it suggested that this world might contain some kind of extraordinary power.

Of course, he couldn't rule out the possibility that Ging was bluffing him. But certain details in his fragmented memories supported what he said.

So far, he hadn't heard any "ding" sound.

Presumably, the so-called greatest assurance for a transmigrator was gone.

In the end, did he have to hope the other party was a good person?

"Although I wouldn't call myself a good person, I am definitely not an evil one."

Mind reading?

"Not mind reading. Just simple observation."

Am I that obvious?

"Not obvious. It's just that I have some understanding of this area and have studied it.

Oh, and my intuition is very accurate, and my sense of smell is good too."

No. What exactly are you introducing about yourself?

Thus, with Kevin's expressionless face and Ging's self-talk as replies, the two continued their exchange.

Ging suddenly sat down on the ground, facing Kevin.

"It seems you have digested what I said. You are someone who thinks and judges, and you should understand the current situation. This is not a threat.

But you also know my abilities, so let's talk openly and honestly, shall we?

Think of it as a transaction. You really need help right now, don't you? Your confusion and unease are written all over your face."

Kevin exhaled and nodded.

Once again, he affirmed in his heart that the Ging in front of him was definitely a formidable character.

A wise man submits to circumstances.
