DRAVEN'S POV.

I shut my eyes and forced air through my lungs, grounding myself the way I had done a thousand times in battle. I am the Alpha. I control the wolf. I decide what survives this body. But today, the wolf wasn't listening.

I dragged myself from the window and toward the basin of cold water, splashing handful after handful onto my face and chest. The water did nothing. It evaporated against my feverish skin. My temperature was rising again—proof that the curse, the hunger, the pull was spiraling out of my control. And then—

I heard a soft knock. I froze.

Before I could speak, the door opened, and Selin stepped in.

She wasn't dressed in jewels or fine silk, just a simple cream dress, her hair falling loosely over her shoulders, warm from sleep. Completely oblivious to the storm she'd been the center of only moments ago.

Her eyes lifted, wide, gentle, cautious, and the world slammed into stillness.
