「Your stamina has drastically decreased due to the Poison Effect.」

"Huff... hah..."

"Just a little more."

「You have been defeated by the Level 7 Test Monster.」

『Your tutorial test has failed. You will be transferred to the beginner's village as the starting point for player adventures. Don't lose heart, the future awaits you. Rewards will be sent to your storage box according to the level you have completed.』

"Damn it."

"Thank you for shopping with us!"

Leaving the convenience store after buying some food to fill the stomach, I immediately headed to the night shift as a security guard at a supermarket.

On the way, I took out my phone and continued reading the novel that had been put aside.

There was a question left by the author of that novel. If someone who has always been unlucky dies after completing one good deed, will he get the luck he never had in his next life?

"This author, does he always have bad luck?"

My name is Aden Kaisal. A 30-year-old single man living in poverty and orphaned. People say I'm handsome. However, being handsome isn't enough to live a decent life.

Never dated, so there's no experience in romance. Life has always revolved around earning money. No matter how hard I work, saving up seems impossible.

Well, that's normal. All the money goes to buying coins to read novels. Every time a little savings appears, it's immediately spent to top-up ReadNovel coins.

If someone said a lover is actually a novel, I'd agree right away! Novels are my love, my lover, and my wife. Beautiful women can't distract me from charm of novel.

Am I crazy?

"That's right!"

For some reason, it felt like the phone agreed.

Before arriving at work, let's talk about the current living situation.

Living in a small rented room that's quite shabby, but still grateful for having a place to stay at a low cost. Besides, living alone means no one cares whether the place looks good or not.

Since never dating when younger and too lazy to socialize with friends, the days were spent reading novels. Especially fantasy stories about people entering other worlds or traveling through time.

Almost every novel in that genre has been read—masterpieces, ordinary ones, all of them. The entire salary went to unlocking chapters.

The novel currently being read is Moon Lord. It tells about a protagonist who enters the world of the game he plays and embarks on a journey full of obstacles. In the end, he achieves success and becomes a ruler through his own efforts, just like the title—Moon Lord.

If only I could be like him, thrown into another world. Though in reality, the life I'd get would surely be that of an NPC.

Never dreamed of becoming a hero; role-playing like that just seemed silly.

After arriving at the workplace, I put on the green uniform and stood at the guard post.

The main task was simply to watch over the place, though sometimes I helped the employees unload stacks of cardboard boxes filled with goods.

That was the daily routine.

An endless cycle, like a wheel that never stops spinning.

---

Several hours passed. It was now 5 a.m., and the day had changed.

The shift ended. After changing out of the work uniform, I walked home, enjoying the morning breeze. The sky was still dark; the sun had not yet risen.

Walking while carrying a plastic bag filled with food for breakfast—fast food heated up in the oven at work, still warm.

As the residence came into view, the ground suddenly shook violently. I staggered, standing near a building with a weak structure.

Steadying my feet, I quickly moved away to avoid debris if something fell.

Everything went smoothly—until it caused my death.

At that moment, people in the house were running out quickly, avoiding the collapse caused by the earthquake.

A little girl ran after her mother, who carried her younger brother. The girl tripped over a rock and fell.

She ignored the falling debris and focused on the pain in her leg.

Without thinking, I threw down the plastic bag and rushed toward the frightened girl.

"Get out of here, quickly!"

Lifting her up, I threw her aside, and just as expected, the debris fell on me.

That was how it ended.

Before death overtook me, the last thought was about the plastic bag filled with food that hadn't been eaten.

Unfortunately, there wasn't even time to eat that meal.

R.I.P.
