Chapter 3 - The first rewrite

Chapter 2 – "The First Rewrite"

The shadow above Kairos loomed like a storm cloud made of teeth and claws. Its roar echoed through the forest, shaking the golden-lettered trees.

Kairos glanced at his new sword, feeling the hum of power under his fingers. Not bad… he thought. Time to test this world.

"Hey, big guy," he said casually, pointing the sword. "How about we… rewrite your ending?"

He concentrated, imagining the monster collapsing harmlessly. A golden text floated in front of him: "Rewrite Attempt: Success Chance – 67%."

67%? That was… not bad. Not perfect, but good enough.

"Level 10 Sword, add Skill: Dragon-Slayer," he whispered, almost as a joke. The sword glowed fiercely. When he swung it, the monster recoiled as if struck by a hurricane.

"Whoa!" Kairos muttered, grinning. "This is actually working!"

But the forest reacted. Trees shifted unnaturally, roots rising like fingers to block his path. The sky turned crimson, and the words "World Resistance: High" appeared in his vision.

Kairos frowned. So the world doesn't just bend for me… it fights back. Interesting.

He ducked as a root smashed where he had stood a second ago. His sword swung on instinct, slicing through the attacking plant like butter. Then he did something bold.

"Undo the attack," he muttered. Instantly, the roots retreated, and the forest returned to normal… except now, the monster had split into two smaller, faster forms.

Kairos laughed. "Oh, you want to play hard? Fine. Let's make it interesting."

He closed his eyes, imagining the monster as a harmless bunny instead. The golden text appeared again: "Rewrite Attempt: Critical Success!"

The monsters vanished with a soft pop, replaced by a small, fluffy bunny hopping toward him. It twitched its nose and… exploded into a puff of smoke.

Kairos grinned. "Okay, maybe a little too critical."

Suddenly, a figure appeared from the forest edge—a tall, armored warrior with a sword glowing faintly blue. He looked straight at Kairos, eyes narrowing.

"You," the warrior said, voice calm but lethal. "You are not supposed to exist here. The story… rejects you."

Kairos tilted his head, intrigued. "Reject me? That's new. You must be the first… story enforcer, huh?"

The warrior's sword hummed. "I am Lorian. And I will correct your anomalies."

Kairos smirked, spinning his sword in one hand. "Anomalies? Nah… just plot twists. Let's see who writes the ending, me or you."

The golden letters around them began swirling faster, as if the forest itself was waiting for the fight to begin.
