Madeleine walked out of a wall in an alleyway. It rippled behind her like the surface of a lake, but she took no notice, walking away from what was a daily occurrence to her.
She stretched and groaned. "My freaking back."
Her mentor, Quentin, was going to be the death of her. He left her in a training room with the door locked and forgot about her for an hour.
By the time she left the sanctum it was 9 p.m. The day's heat was overtaken by the chilly evening wind. Car lights flashed up and down the street like a game of Tetris.
"I need to play some Sims," she muttered aloud.
But there was no time; Tammy's case was still ongoing. With Noah's calm, and eerily accurate, investigation, Madeleine was sure they could find who murdered Tammy and where her body was buried.
And if it is a supernatural case, I can add this to my trainee logbook. The savvy detective stuff I'll have to leave out, though.
That reminded her about Noah and the fact that he hadn't called her all day.
