Seraphina
The door creaked open, and before I could breathe properly, Kael was standing there. His chest rose and fell fast, and his expression was full of emotion.
For a moment, we just stared at each other, then he crossed the room in two strides and pulled me into his arms.
His arms locked around me, I buried my face against his neck, breathing him in. "I thought I lost you," I whispered.
His grip tightened. "You didn't love."
We stayed like that for a while, neither of us moving.
His heart was pounding hard against my chest just as mine was pounding against his. I could feel the heat from his skin even through the ruined fabric of his shirt.
My fingers brushed the back of his neck, and he let out a quiet breath. If there was a way to soak myself in the fullness of him, I would.
When I finally pulled back, his hand stayed on my waist. He looked down at me.
"You shouldn't have come," I said softly.
"I had to."
"You could've been killed."
