Chapter 6 Part 2: City Turmoil and Pursuit

After waking, Anna took Lu Fei's hand and announced something.

"Xiao Fei, I want to pursue the witch's traces."

"Huh? Why?"

"Because this so-called witch's gaze feels very suspicious."

Anna looked serious.

Lu Fei supported it without question.

He also wanted to figure out what that mysterious witch was and whether she posed a danger to Sister Anna.

After breakfast, instead of heading to the adventurers' guild right away, the four of them went to the blacksmith's shop.

They were supposed to go yesterday, but Wick disrupted everything.

Anna's gift for Lu Fei also hadn't been picked up.

"Hey there, ladies and gentlemen looking for weapons? Not to brag, but in all of Lane City, Tok Weapons is your best bet. Come, take a look these are fine steel weapons, sharp as can be, and the price is fair no cheating the young or old."

Seeing them arrive, a red-nosed man rushed over warmly.

"Do you have wands, boss?"

Anna went straight to the point.

For now, Xiao Fei had the holy sword Esther, and she had a blacksteel longsword so melee weapons weren't needed.

They needed wands.

Whether it was her, or Lu Fei, or the elven sisters Amy and Ellie, they all could use magic.

So a wand would be very helpful in battle.

"Of course we have wands. Please, take a look!"

The shopkeeper's eyes brightened; after admiring Anna and the sisters' beauty, his smile grew even wider.

He took out a fine box from under the counter.

Opening it

Inside lay several small black short rods.

These were the wands of this world.

Roughly similar to those in that Hogwarts from a former life.

Short, sturdy.

Easy to carry!

"Ladies and handsome gentleman these wands were crafted by a master. I'll tell you a secret they were consigned by a noble lord for sale here. Fine quality, but a bit pricey."

"How much?"

Anna asked.

"Ten gold each!"

"Oh. Then give me four!"

"Right away!"

The red-nosed boss could hardly keep from grinning.

Such ordinary wands were beneath nobles, so they could only be sold to adventurers.

At ten gold, he'd not only avoid a loss he'd earn well.

They were universal magic tools.

No need to consider elemental alignment as long as one could use magic and had mana, one could use them.

The downside was that they broke easily.

After all, they were cheap.

Neither Anna nor Lu Fei minded.

Lu Fei used a wand to mask his explosion magic.

Using a wand to unleash invisible magic could even let him pass for a sorcerer.

Amy and Ellie were delighted.

As soon as they got their wands, they couldn't put them down.

They tested a few spells and found the conduction surprisingly good.

Casting speed and power rose by about 20%.

As expected

Adventurers lived on gear bonuses.

"All right now that we have wands, let's find a fitting commission to practice magic combat! Swordsmanship is sealed for now! Xiao Fei, rein in the power of your explosion magic too no opening with big blasts each time."

"No problem!"

Lu Fei nodded with a smile.

He had long wanted to develop his explosion magic.

Always opening big not only consumed too much mana, but the power was uncontrollable too easy to blow the surroundings to ash.

The destructive force was too great.

His goal was to shrink the explosive energy orb to thumb-size, then fire it like a laser.

That would be a small, controllable, mobile explosive.

The power wouldn't be excessive, nor would it be weak.

Just right for his current level.

As mentioned before

His explosion magic had the potential to grow into destruction magic.

So further fine development was the correct path.

Arriving at the adventurers' guild, Anna took a commission to subjugate a Hopper Boar.

Soon, the four reached a nearby magical beast forest.

Hopper Boars were level-3 beasts.

When encountering people, they would leap and use their tusks to impale their enemies.

And their jump was astonishing.

One leap could reach three meters.

An unprepared adventurer could be killed instantly if struck by a tusk backed by its weight and momentum.

After all, it was a level-3 beast quite strong.

Level-2 novices wouldn't dare provoke it.

The reason subjugation commissions existed for Hopper Boars was that their meat was firm and very tasty when cooked always in demand at the guild.

The price wasn't low.

One pound of Hopper Boar meat was 10 silver.

…

"Ready, Ellie the Hopper Boar's entering the trap range."

Crouching, Amy whispered to her sister.

Ahead, Amy had used magic to set a trap and placed bait specifically to lure a Hopper Boar.

Soon.

A two-meter-tall boar-shaped magical beast trotted over.

It sniffed with its nose.

Smelled great.

Tasty!

It was certain.

"Ellie go!"

"Yes, Amy!"

At Amy's command, Ellie raised her wand and fired a water arrow at the boar's backside.

"Ao~!"

The Hopper Boar felt a sudden chill at its chrysanthemum and instinctively leaped up.

At that instant an invisible force fell from above, detonating and knocking it down.

With a plop, it fell into the prepared pit trap, unable to move.

It struggled mightily.

But Amy raised her wand again and laid on a few restraining spells. The surrounding mud grew sticky and glued it down hard.

"Leave it to me!"

By then Anna had finished charging. Her delicate hand held the wand like a sword and thrust toward the boar!

In an instant, a cyan mini-tornado shot like a shell straight through the Hopper Boar's head, and then through its body.

"Gaaah!"

With a wail, the boar spasmed and went still.

"Success! Yay!"

Amy and Ellie cheered.

The first time the four cooperated so flawlessly to take down a level-3 beast it filled the two with a special sense of accomplishment.

"Amy, Ellie great teamwork."

Anna smiled and ruffled their hair in encouragement.

"Hehe Sister Anna's magic is strong too you even got the kill."

"Not bad. Xiao Fei taught me how to charge a mini-tornado."

"That not only increases penetration, but also power."

At this, Anna looked gently at Lu Fei, her heart warm.

Her Xiao Fei really was a genius.

"Brother Lu Fei is amazing too hitting the boar down so precisely."

The sisters' adoring looks made Lu Fei proud.

"You two did great as well especially Ellie hitting the boar's butt with a water arrow. Perfect timing. And Amy, your magic clay mire worked excellently."

"Hehe thanks for the praise."

The two couldn't help smiling happily at the compliment.

Finally, they weren't burdens.

Amy and Ellie also wanted to protect Brother Lu Fei and Sister Anna.

So both were growing stronger in their own ways.

Watching Anna's group enter the adventurers' guild with the Hopper Boar, a fiery gleam flashed in the black-robed man's eyes.

Of course, that gaze was aimed at Lu Fei.

Did he like men?

No, no.

He just wanted to capture Lu Fei and dissect him to aid his experiments.

Who would've thought

A mere muggle, without mana, had become a level-2 adventurer.
