Chapter 188 - Chapter 145: Missionary Naoki

Having resolved the butler issue, Naoki was in high spirits.

He specifically invited Allen out for a meal in Cascarrafa City.

They chose the Fresh Fish Restaurant, a place specializing in fish dishes.

The two of them sat under the sunshade at the entrance, with Cyclizar, as waiters brought various fish dishes and four drinks.

While placing a fresh, delicious piece of salmon sashimi in front of Cyclizar, Naoki said:

"I really owe it to you today; otherwise, I might take ages to find the Housekeeper Pokémon."

Allen replied straightforwardly: "Just a minor thing! Is there anything else you need my help with?"

There really is. Naoki thought to himself, as he asked: "Do you know where I can learn to make Pokeblock?"

"Pokeblock?" Allen took a bite of fish, thought carefully, and said: "I really don't know about that. Usually, people proficient at making Pokeblock are Pokémon Breeders."

"So where did they learn it from?" Naoki asked.

"Probably the Breeder Association?" Allen guessed, "I'm not really sure, since I'm just a town mailman, but don't worry, I'll inquire for you when I deliver mail next time."

Naoki: "Thanks a lot."

Allen reminded him: "I'm helping you out, so don't let me down in next year's horse race!"

Upon hearing this, Naoki secretly complained in his heart: This guy's still thinking about the ten thousand League coins lost on betting horses!

But he didn't dare to make any promises, as he currently had no way to leave the ranch for too long, let alone leave the Paldea region.

Seeing Naoki's expression, Allen began to insist: "No way! We had a deal! I help you find the Housekeeper Pokémon, and you help me win back those ten thousand League coins!"

"Fine, fine!" Naoki nodded helplessly: "How about this, when winter comes and there's nothing to do in the fields, I'll take the opportunity to go out and see if I can encounter a Horse-type Pokémon."

By then, Indeedee should be able to help him share the workload at the ranch, allowing him some time to visit the Galar region.

This finally satisfied Allen, though he was still a bit confused: "But don't Horse-type Pokémon tend to be absent in winter?"

"Depends on the species!" Naoki's mind recalled Calyrex's Glastrier: "Some Horse-type Pokémon are Ice Type, they like to appear in the icy snow."

Allen: "…I've never heard of such a Horse-type Pokémon."

Naoki teased: "You'll find out when the time comes."

Allen: "Okay, then I'll await your good news!"

After finishing their meal, the two began to ride Cyclizar back.

By the time Naoki returned to the ranch, it was already two o'clock in the afternoon.

A group of Pokémon were leisurely basking in the sun on the grass, and upon seeing Naoki return, they all came up to greet him.

Naoki patted each of their little heads, smiling as he asked: "Did you all have a good day?"

"Awoo!"

"Ah ga sss~"

"Muuu~"

"Yawn yawn!"

"..."

Seeing that everyone was safe and sound, Naoki felt relieved.

He let Alcremie and the others continue to play, while he went back indoors to start tidying up the house that had been messed up by the Pokémon.

During midday, he wasn't around, so Glaceon's lunch was likely prepared with Koraidon's help.

This was evidenced by the notable reduction in sandwiches, Berries, and Berry Milk in the refrigerator.

Empty milk bottles were scattered loosely on the table, and one had even rolled onto the floor.

Naoki stepped forward to pick them up, washed them clean, and placed them in the fridge for reuse later.

After cleaning indoors, Naoki went outside, broom in hand, to sweep away the fallen leaves and dust near the shrine of Calyrex.

As he gazed at the mud-crafted cabbage rabbit in the shrine, Naoki placed a few Berries in front of the shrine.

Suddenly, Naoki realized something wasn't quite right.

He squatted down, carefully inspecting it. He eventually spotted several cracks on the side of the "Calyrex statue".

The mud statue was inherently fragile, and being exposed to the scorching sun all day led to cracking.

Naoki: "..."

After pondering for a moment, he thought he might as well remake the Calyrex with a new statue.

So that afternoon, he gathered his tools and a piece of wood, sitting under the eaves and recalling the appearance of Calyrex while he carved the wooden sculpture.

On the expansive lawn before him, a group of Pokémon ran around boisterously.

The afternoon sunlight lay scattered across the ground.

Naoki quietly carved the wood, occasionally looking up at Dragonite and Koraidon.

By 4:20 PM, a simple wooden sculpture of Calyrex was officially completed.

To make it long-lasting, Naoki specifically approached Keri to have her polish it, just like making furniture.

"What's this? A huge hammer?"

Taking the oddly-shaped wooden sculpture with an oversized head from Naoki, Keri's face was full of surprise.

Naoki: "...Is it very ugly?"

Keri: "Not that ugly."

She noticed this "huge hammer" had a face and legs: "Could this be a Pokémon?"

"Yes." Naoki said truthfully: "It's a Pokémon named Calyrex."

He shared the legend of Calyrex with Keri.

And told her Calyrex can help crops grow, suggesting she make a few statues to keep or sell to nearby farmers.

It was all for the cause of capturing Glastrier and Spectrier, Naoki thought.

One person's faith is too weak, and perhaps Calyrex cannot sense it, but if more humans know Calyrex's name, maybe He will sense it all.

"Alright, alright, I'll polish and wax it for you, but it will take some time, you can pick it up tomorrow." Keri didn't take Naoki's words to heart.

"Alright."

Naoki acknowledged, turning away on Koraidon and leaving.

Meanwhile, in the distant Galar region, Calyrex once again sensed what His devoted follower had done.

What had He seen?!

That follower not only worshiped Him alone but was actively spreading His name to others in distant, unfamiliar lands!

"Truly a loyal follower of mine!"

At this moment, Calyrex's favor towards the little follower continually increased.

He sensed the Power of Faith accumulated within His body over this time, then gently waved His left hand, activating His power, and His eyes lit up with a glow.

Even though His power is still weak now, far from being able to make large fields fertile and bountiful, doing so for one or two is still possible.

Calyrex desired to use this method to give the little follower a hint, urging him to come to The Crown Tundra quickly in search of Him.

At midnight, when all creation had entered dreamland.

A beam representing harvest crossed distant space and fell onto an inconspicuous crop in the field.

In the next instant, the crop began changing at a speed visible to the naked eye.

It rooted and sprouted from the soil, gradually growing into a seedling, and turning into a sturdy vine.

Soon, the vine bloomed into a tender yellow flower, which slowly matured into a plump watermelon.

The transformation didn't stop there.

The watermelon grew larger and larger, occupying the land of surrounding plants, eventually becoming a colossal super watermelon, about over two meters tall.
