Chapter 62 - Chapter 60: Kuriboh

Did he just say... Kuriboh!?

Isn't that the exclusive Divine Card of the King?

Anyone who knows Yu-Gi-Oh! should be aware of Kuriboh. For years, Kuriboh has been one of the iconic monsters of Yu-Gi-Oh!, garnering plenty of fans with its adorable appearance.

It's an unwritten tradition that every generation of Yu-Gi-Oh! features a new Kuriboh as a mascot. From the original Kuriboh who followed the King, to the Winged Kuriboh throughout GX, and later Junkuriboh, Rainbow Kuriboh, and others.

The Kuriboh family can truly be considered loyal and devoted, dedicated to blocking attacks for the protagonist for twenty years. It's somewhat like Pikachu, the iconic Pokémon, where there's a new electric mouse in every generation...

This Kuriboh wasn't pulled from the System Card Pool by Youyu. In the System Card Pool, the rarity of "Kuriboh" is marked as SR.

And this didn't really surprise Youyu. After all, Kuriboh was one of the few "Hand Pits" in the Yu-Gi-Oh! DM era—discarded from the hand during the opponent's turn to activate its effect, it's considered the ancestor of many Hand Pits in later Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.

Initially, he thought a Rare Card like Kuriboh should have been exclusive to the game in the DM era. Surprisingly, after opening hundreds of card packs a few days ago, he actually got one.

This implies that Kuriboh isn't particularly rare, just that in the DM anime, only Yugi's deck included this card.

As for the reason, Youyu suspected that most Duelists considered a Monster with only 300 attack points and no offensive effect as simple fodder, so they overlooked it.

It seems that the Duelists of this era are still too naïve and haven't experienced the harsh realities of life... unaware of the power of Hand Pits...

And now, Youyu deliberately chose a place full of players to showcase his card pool in front of them.

Haha, see this? I even have the original Hand Pit, Kuriboh. Impressive, right?

Want it?

You can't have it, feeling annoyed?

Just as Red Ogre's big, dark club was about to strike, the Kuriboh discarded to the graveyard by Youyu quickly appeared as a 3D hologram in front of him, emitting a series of cute and soft "Kuriboh" sounds.

The giant club of Red Ogre slammed down hard, but all its power was blocked by Kuriboh, leaving Youyu's LP untouched.

The girls were losing it: "AWSL, this is too cute!?"

"I want a Kuriboh too! I want to take one home and raise it!"

"Who on earth is this NPC? How does he have both Elemental Heroes and Kuriboh?"

"His name can't be Muto Judai, right...?"

"..."

The non-mainstream uncle watched as Red Ogre's attack failed, smacking his lips and saying, "Then my turn is over."

He smiled lightly and said, "But even if you survived this round with a junk Monster, I still have an absolute advantage on the field. With a powerful Monster like Red Ogre, I can crush anything you Summon instantly!"

The bystander player: "Oh no, that guy just called Kuriboh 'junk'!"

"Wow, is that serious? Haven't you heard that anyone who dares to call Kuriboh junk in Yu-Gi-Oh! ends up obliterated?"

"Farewell, brave one..."

Youyu smiled slightly, not taking it to heart, and continued the duel: "My turn, draw!"

He glanced at his hand, eyes lighting up.

Finally, it's here!

Actually, the reason he was dueling here is that there are more silly players here, which grabs more attention.

Besides, the non-mainstream uncle's name is Keita, a colleague of Youyu in the Nightwalker World, specifically called in by Youyu to play the role of an easy opponent.

If he randomly picked a passerby from the street, the average passerby would be too weak, possibly not achieving the effect he wanted.

If you're going to put on a show, you want to make the most memorable impression on the silly players.

Like...

"From my hand, I activate... Pot of Greed!" Youyu said, "By this card's effect, I can draw two more cards from my Card Deck!"

Unsurprisingly, the silly players erupted as expected.

"Wow, here it is, a Divine Card!"

"My buddy wasn't lying, in DM everyone has Forbidden Cards!"

"Ugh, I wish I could have a Pot to enjoy..."

But the shock was too early.

"Next is the Magic Card... Graceful Charity!" Youyu followed up with a combo, "I can draw three more cards from my deck, then discard two from my hand."

The players became even more excited.

"Damn, another Forbidden Card!"

"This is excessive, even a two-hit combo!"

Youyu heard their reactions from afar, his mouth curving into a small smile, very pleased with their response.

This is exactly the effect he wanted.

If you aren't next to me, enviously stomping your feet, how else can my business thrive?

But it's not over yet!

"I'm setting three cards from my hand onto the field!" Three cards were set in front of Youyu. "Next, I activate the last card in my hand...

...Pot of Greed!

Both players can draw cards from their decks until their hand contains six cards!"

The players: "..."

"..."

"Isn't this... too much?"

"...Has anyone calculated how many cards this NPC has drawn in one turn?"

"Pot of Greed two cards, Graceful Charity three cards, Pot of Greed again six cards... That's already eleven cards, damn it!"

"Referee, I accuse someone of cheating!"

"Shit! When will I be able to play cards like this? This is what card games should be like!"

Youyu smiled.

Preparation complete; the real show is just about to begin.

"I activate Field Magic - Fusion Gate!" The side of Youyu's Duel Disc flipped open a slot for Field Magic Cards, quickly retracting after the card was placed.

"With Fusion Gate's effect, both players can perform Fusion Summons without needing 'Fusion' Magic Cards, by banishing the Fusion Material Monsters from the game!"

Lightning appeared in the sky of the field, black clouds gathered into an abyssal vortex, like a rotating wormhole hovering above the field.

Technically, Fusion Gate is also a UR Rare Level card in the System Card Pool... But after witnessing that string of card draws, the players now feel like a mere UR is nothing significant...

The players now share the same thought—

—exactly what is the story behind this impressive NPC?

Why does the stuff in his card deck feel different from the style of other NPCs?

"Activate Set Card, Magic Card - The Warrior Returning Alive! This card can return a Warrior-Type Monster from the graveyard to the hand, and I choose 'Elemental Hero Clayman'!

Next is another Set Card, Magic Card, E - Emergency Call! Choose an Elemental Hero Monster from the deck and add it to the hand. I choose 'Elemental Hero Featherman'!"

Now, Youyu's hand contained up to seven cards. He picked out two of them, directing them toward the black vortex in the sky.

"First, fuse the 'Elemental Hero Blazeman' in the hand with the Earth Attribute 'Elemental Hero Clayman'! Fusion Summon—'Elemental Hero Gaia'!"

The two heroes were projected, soaring into the black vortex in the sky together. A pillar of black light crashed onto the floor, sending debris flying. A colossal hero clad in black armor rose from the ground, the earth trembling with his emergence.

Elemental Hero Gaia, summon!

"Gaia's effect, upon successful Fusion Summon, halves the attack power of one Monster on the opponent's field until the end of the turn and adds it to his attack power!" Youyu declared.

[Red Ogre, Attack 2800 → Attack 1400]

[Elemental Hero Gaia, Attack 2200 → Attack 3600]

The unconventional old man, Keita, gritted his teeth: "Red Ogre's attack power..."

"It's not over yet!" Youyu raised two more cards from his hand, "This time, 'Elemental Hero Sparkman' and the Fire Attribute 'Elemental Hero Heat' will be fused! Fusion Summon—'Elemental Hero Nova Master'!"

Once again, two heroes vanished into the vortex, as a pillar of fire descended from the heavens to reveal a new warrior. The warrior, garbed in red and gold armor with flames swirling around him, crashed onto the ground, his cape billowing and waves of heat dominating the field.

Elemental Hero Nova Master, summon!

"Then, fuse the Wind Attribute 'Elemental Hero Featherman' from the hand, with 'Elemental Hero Necroshade'! Fusion Summon—'Elemental Hero Great Tornado'!"

A storm descended from the portal of Fusion Gate, and the storm's hero arrived through the black hole. The howling gale suppressed the entire opponent's field, pinning the already weakened Red Ogre kneeled down by the storm, as if he could barely hold onto his Wolf Fang Club.

Elemental Hero Great Tornado, summon!

"Great Tornado's effect!" said Youyu, "All Monsters on the opponent's field have their attack power halved!"

[Red Ogre, Attack 1400 → Attack 700]

Poor Red Ogre, once a mighty beast with attack power of 2800, now has attack power so pitiful it can only show off in front of Kuriboh...

[Elemental Hero Gaia, Attack 3600]

[Elemental Hero Nova Master, Attack 2600]

[Elemental Hero Great Tornado, Attack 2800]

[Red Ogre, Attack 700]

Keita's face turned pale as if he had seen a ghost: "In one turn, summoning Monsters with attack powers of 3600, 2600, and 2800!?"

No, I know you're amazing, but this is... too outrageous!

Youyu smiled slightly, pointing to the card at his feet: "Then I activate the Set card on the field... 'Quick Attack'! The Fusion Monsters can attack this turn.

Then direct combat! Gaia! Nova Master! Great Tornado! Attack!"

The raging winds roared, the earth trembled, flames intertwined within the spiraling storm, sweeping away with massive momentum.

With a total of 9000 points of output, Red Ogre with remaining attack power of only 700 endured pain beyond its capacity, instantly shattered within the storm and fiery sea. The exaggerated and dazzling imagery followed, engulfing Keita, and burning away all his LP.

[Keita, LP 4000 → LP 0]
