Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: The First Gift

Huff huff.

Obito was panting heavily, then handed the long box in his hand to Mokgetsu and said:

"Teacher Mokgetsu, I heard you like calligraphy, so I thought I'd use the prize money to buy you a brush."

Originally, Obito wanted to buy a gift for Nohara Rin, but after thinking about it, he felt it wasn't right.

He sometimes had a sharp tongue, but that didn't mean he wasn't aware. Without Mokgetsu's dedicated teaching, would he have had the strength to take first place? No, he wouldn't have.

Not only taking first place in the competition, but also passing the theoretical exam for the first time, shedding his title as last place in the practical exam – all these changes were due to Mokgetsu's guidance.

So in the end, after much deliberation, Obito decided to buy a gift for Mokgetsu.

Facing the long box being handed to him, Mokgetsu swallowed back his preaching.

He accepted the long box, opened it to take a glance, nodded slightly, then closed it and held it in his left hand while smoothing Obito's breath with his right hand, saying:

"I do like calligraphy, I'm very pleased with your gift, take a rest before you prepare for training."

A student gave him a gift, so he must give positive feedback, rather than following his original plan of lecturing.

Looking at Obito, being late to class might be for this reason.

Meticulously preparing a gift for the teacher, only to be met with a shower of reprimands – no one would feel good about that.

Of course, there's also the option of playing a reversal, apologizing and expressing gratitude after training, saying during training we are teacher and student, but afterward we are friends.

This way, initial feelings of grievance and resentment would transform into positive emotions during the reversal, greatly enhancing goodwill.

However, Mokgetsu didn't feel like employing this method today, at least not today.

After all, today he received his first gift from this world.

"Hehe, as long as you like it, Teacher. I don't really understand calligraphy, I just thought this pen looked nice, so I bought it." Obito said with a silly smile.

Immediately after, Obito took a few deep breaths, stood up and said, "Teacher Mokgetsu, I'm ready, let's start today's cultivation."

Seeing Obito so enthusiastic, Mokgetsu nodded and waved Might Guy over.

"Let's restart the training from three weeks ago, you haven't forgotten, right?" Mokgetsu asked with a smile.

Obito's memory took him back to the days before the special competition training.

"One hit, one extra question…" Obito, suddenly attacked by memory, broke into a cold sweat as he recalled.

For the past twenty plus days, he had been practicing Chakra Control Nature Transformation, so much so that he had forgotten about the hellish training from before.

"Haven't forgotten, if you miss, do fifty extra questions; each hit reduces one question, but no more than forty in total." Might Guy recalled.

He might not be able to name his opponents in the practical exam, but he remembered the training plan.

"Obito can't use Ninjutsu in battle, one hit, one extra question." Might Guy gave a thumbs up to Obito, including his part too.

Obito looked at Might Guy's gleaming white teeth with a face full of despair, silently thinking, thank you…

"Teacher, I think I might have overestimated my abilities; how about we take a break today?" Obito said as he sat on the ground, pretending to be serious.

Although cultivating to become stronger was nice, doing questions was too painful, leaving it to the future was better.

Mokgetsu chuckled lightly and said, "Resting? Of course you can rest, but if you're not training, then focus on the questions. I have plenty of exams here."

As he spoke, Mokgetsu took out a stack of exam papers from the Scroll.

Immediately, a medical miracle occurred.

Obito quickly stood up with a serious face and said, "What's a little discomfort, Teacher Mokgetsu, I think I can hold on, let's start the cultivation."

Mokgetsu smiled warmly and said, "Don't push yourself, rest if you need to."

"Thank you for your concern, Teacher Mokgetsu, but there's only one month until the final exam, I want to avenge myself against Hyuga Kamon and seize the time to become stronger." Obito said determinedly.

Mokgetsu nodded with satisfaction, still holding the pen box in his hand, he patted Might Guy's shoulder with his right hand and said:

"Guy, since Obito is so determined, you must help him improve his Taijutsu level well."

Might Guy stood straight, showing a bright smile and said:

"Don't worry, Teacher Mokgetsu, I'll surely give 120% of my effort!"

Listening to the conversation between the two, Obito thought: ...

It seems today either he or his brain has to die.

Might Guy wasn't joking; when he said he would give his all, he meant it.

While Obito was doing special training for the competition, Might Guy was continually working on strengthening his physique.

Thanks to the secret medicine system, Mokgetsu later increased Might Guy's training intensity.

The twenty plus days of hard training brought Might Guy substantial physical enhancement, faster speed, and greater strength.

Whereas Obito's special training achievements mainly lay in Ninjutsu, ironically, the current training forbade using Ninjutsu.

Under these circumstances, Obito found himself almost one-sidedly being beaten.

Luckily, Mokgetsu's enhanced water-walking cultivation also trained his Body Technique; otherwise, it would have been even worse.

Such an almost crushing battle also made Obito realize his true strength.

Having won first place in the Youth Ninjutsu Competition, even tying for first with Kakashi, Obito's mindset was slightly inflated.

But after battling Might Guy, Obito realized even now if he returned to the practical exam, he couldn't defeat Hyuga Kamon.

His Ninjutsu was indeed more powerful, but in front of Hyuga Kamon's Gentle Fist and Byakugan combination, his level of Taijutsu wasn't enough to allow him time to release Ninjutsu.

With the Byakugan and Gentle Fist combination, as long as Hyuga Kamon gained the upper hand slightly, Obito would be defeated.

The Byakugan sees through Chakra Acupoints, Gentle Fist blocks Chakra, once entering Hyuga Kamon's rhythm, it's almost a loss.

"But, these questions are so difficult…" Looking at the questions before him, holding the pen, Obito felt a bit shattered inside.

He understood the principles, but answering the questions was truly difficult.

"Let's eat first." Mokgetsu handed a lunch box to Obito, then to Shisui and Might Guy.

Though feeling lifeless, after tasting Mokgetsu's cooking, Obito instantly regained his sense of the world's goodness, feeling revived.

[You've gifted your disciple a delicious home-cooked meal, the disciple is very grateful and rewards you with a critical hit, gaining Chakra +100]

A heartfelt gift being praised, plus the perfect timing of providing food, can only be expected to result in a critical hit.

Since Obito was hit too many times, to not affect training effectiveness, Mokgetsu allowed Obito to do the questions in installments, without needing to finish them now.

The next day.

To better enhance Class 1-A's strength, gaining more rewards, Mokgetsu began his operation.

First, Mokgetsu utilized the Ninjutsu class period to conduct a practical exam in the class, then gave each person feedback and advice.
