Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: The Real Exam Begins Before Entering the Exam Room

The training for strengthening the body was much tougher than what Shisui anticipated.

Prior to this, he usually only exercised by running, and rarely ran to the point of exhaustion.

But today was different, Shisui almost completed exercises for every part of his body.

After doing 800 push-ups, Shisui felt as if his arms no longer belonged to him, after 800 squats his legs felt as heavy as lead, and after 800 sit-ups his abdomen was aching.

After completing all these basic exercises, Shisui leaned against a tree and felt he had lost control of his body.

Watching Might Guy train intensely usually felt like nothing special, but when he tried it himself, he finally realized how hard it was.

By the end, he was almost relying on sheer willpower to keep going, his body's perception had become very vague, just mechanically repeating the exercises with determination.

Shisui almost couldn't resist using Chakra to assist in his movements, it was so exhausting.

Imagine, the constantly flowing sweat blurs your eyes, the salt in it makes your eyes uncomfortable, every movement of your heavy limbs is a test of will and strength, but you cannot stop because you haven't reached the training goal yet.

"Four hundred twelve, four hundred thirteen…"

Glancing at Might Guy who was still doing frog jumps not far away, Shisui felt a sense of admiration in his heart.

He and Might Guy started training almost at the same time. Might Guy's workout moves were even harder to complete than his own; while Shisui was just doing push-ups, Might Guy would do them with a stone on his back as additional weight.

Even so, in the same amount of time, Might Guy still managed to do more than him, and even after he was exhausted, Might Guy still had the energy to keep training.

Actually, even in pure Taijutsu battles, Shisui wouldn't lose to Might Guy, he might even be better, but in terms of physical strength alone, he was far behind Might Guy.

As Might Guy rested, Shisui couldn't help but ask, "Guy, have you been training regularly even before this to handle such intense exercises?"

Might Guy nodded and replied, "I started before joining the Ninja Academy; my father trained with me."

Hearing Might Guy's words, Shisui felt a bit melancholic and envious because he had no parents at that age.

Shisui believes that if his parents were still alive back then, they would've taught him ninja skills too.

"Shisui, do you find it too tiresome to complete? I have a training secret, want to hear it?" Might Guy decided to share the training method passed down from his father with Shisui.

Without the clan ties like Obito and Shisui, Might Guy wasn't very familiar with Shisui, but having trained and eaten together often enough, he already considered Shisui a trustworthy companion.

"What secret?" Shisui became interested.

"Impose self-discipline by treating the completion of these exercises as a challenge. If you fail to complete the challenge, accept a punishment, for example, if you can't finish 3000 push-ups on time, you punish yourself by doing 500 more." Might Guy explained.

"Pushing oneself by adding constraints indeed seems like a great training method." Shisui thought and said.

He found Might Guy's method similar to Mokgetsu's battle exercises.

Shisui didn't expect Might Guy, who appeared rough and straightforward, to think of such a way to motivate himself.

"Isn't it great? This is what my father taught me, each time I face a difficult challenge, I use self-discipline." Might Guy scratched his head and smiled.

"Then your father should be a very powerful Jonin, right?" Shisui praised.

Being able to raise a son like Might Guy, he thought Might Guy's father couldn't be ordinary.

"Haha, he's just a Genin, but I think my father is great." Might Guy laughed heartily.

Though just a perpetual Genin, it didn't shake Might Guy's belief in his father's abilities.

"Genin…" Shisui was somewhat shocked, and became more curious about Might Guy's father.

Considering Might Guy's age, his father must be over twenty-eight, over thirty would be very normal; it was unusual to still be a Genin at this age.

"I have a Chakra usage technique for Taijutsu, why don't we discuss it?" Shisui proposed in return.

...

In a classroom of the first-year class of the Ninja Academy.

"The Ninjutsu Theory Class One ends here. The finals are in two weeks, so start reviewing well to prepare," said Mokgetsu.

Originally it should have been finished a week ago, but Mokgetsu taught rather quickly, so two weeks for review were left.

"Teacher Mokgetsu, don't forget my dango." Anko spoke up.

"Just get good grades, you won't miss out on dango." Mokgetsu smiled.

"Teacher Mokgetsu, I want some snacks." Hagane Kotetsu raised his hand.

"Prepare well for the exams, rewards won't be lacking," Mokgetsu said as he sorted through his teaching materials.

Ring, ring, ring. Soon the class bell rang, along with the system message that came with it.

[Lecture completed]

[Evaluation: A]

[Reward acquired: Fire Release: Impatiens Claw Red]

Mokgetsu picked up the teaching materials, nodding to himself, this was indeed a fairly practical Fire Release Ninjutsu.

"Reviewing for two weeks, sounds exhausting just thinking about it," Kotetsu complained.

"Then just don't review, after all, it's not like you weren't paying attention in class," Kamizuki Izumo suggested.

Due to Kotetsu's unreliability, Kamizuki Izumo felt finding a girlfriend had to rely on himself. He had already checked out that the neighbor's girl also attended the Ninja Academy, in class 1-6.

He planned to ace the theory exam and then approach her as the top student.

Although Kotetsu scored a few points lower than him in the last exam, their scores in recent practice tests were almost identical, so Izumo considered Kotetsu a strong rival for the top spot. Hence, he wanted Kotetsu to abandon the idea of reviewing.

"Not reviewing sounds pretty good. I heard from my older cousin that sometimes facing exams in a more relaxed manner without reviewing might lead to better results." Kotetsu nodded in agreement.

Actually, Kotetsu's initial complaint was a setup for this sentence; he wanted to make Izumo give up on the review idea, so he could claim first place.

He had already boasted to Mie that he could claim the top spot in theory, and Izumo was his main rival for first place.

"Wow, is that really true?" Anko was tempted as two weeks of reviewing felt tiring to her.

Kotetsu and Izumo both nodded in agreement.

"Shisui, do you usually review for exams?" Anko asked Shisui at the back.

Shisui shook his head; he memorized everything during classes.

Seeing Shisui, the top scorer in the last theory exam, say this, Anko's eyes lit up instantly, feeling like she really could skip reviewing.

"Then let's hang out together this weekend," Anko invited her two buddies.

"No, I have something at home this weekend," Kotetsu shook his head and refused, he didn't want to play, he wanted to study and review to claim first place.

"What about you, Izumo?" Anko turned to Kamizuki Izumo.

Kamizuki Izumo also shook his head and said, "Things have been busy at home, I can't make it."

After finally convincing others not to review, he certainly wanted to stay home to review intently.

"Alright, then I'll find someone else to hang out with," Anko didn't doubt their words.

The real exam already began outside the classroom, and Anko was already eliminated.
