Chapter 185 - Chapter 87: Overseas Mission

"When will we get to do S-level missions?" On the way to the Hokage Building, Obito thought of Kakashi's harsh words from the previous day and couldn't help but sigh.

A C-Class Mission where you don't even encounter a ninja was clearly not the type of mission he wanted to take on.

"Tonight." Kakashi replied.

"Why?" Obito asked in confusion.

"Dream about it when you sleep." Kakashi said calmly.

"Even Chunin find it hard to participate in S-level missions, and you haven't even graduated yet but want to complete an S-level mission?"

"Damn Kakashi, just because you can't, don't think I'm like you. Once I become a Chunin, I'm sure there'll be a chance to do S-level missions." Immediately, Obito was filled with fighting spirit.

Since they completed D-Class Missions so efficiently and were granted the privilege to take on C-Class Missions, if they maintain high efficiency with C-Class Missions, wouldn't they soon be able to do higher-ranking missions?

"Teacher Mokgetsu, make sure to accept a challenging mission next, let them see our strength." Obito said, full of motivation.

"It'd be great if it involves some fighting." Might Guy, having done menial work for two days, was also getting a bit itchy to fight.

Kakashi had no specific requests, having done many C-Class Missions already.

Mokgetsu nodded with a smile, agreeing. What Obito and Might Guy wanted was exactly what he was hoping for.

"Here are some of the current C-Class Missions." The registry ninja spread out several Scrolls for Mokgetsu to look at.

"Eradicate bandits hiding in Eagle Beak Mountain, eliminate unknown beasts harassing Puseng Town, escort a client back to the capital of the Land of Rice Fields..."

Mokgetsu glanced over them. The ones explicitly involving battles were mostly about eradicating bandits or driving off beasts, which Mokgetsu immediately skipped.

He wanted battles, yes, but fighting ordinary people or beasts wouldn't help him at all.

"Let's go with this escort mission back to the Land of Rice Fields then." Mokgetsu thought for a moment and said.

"Are you sure you want to choose this mission? The current situation in the Ninja World is a bit chaotic. Although the Land of Rice Fields doesn't have a Ninja Village, going abroad now involves a certain degree of risk." The registry ninja reminded.

He actually felt Mokgetsu might as well take on missions to eradicate bandits or drive off beasts. There were many missions within the Land of Fire, which would be safer.

"We're not afraid of risk, just afraid of no risk." Obito brightened up at the registry ninja's words.

"Thanks for the reminder, we'll go with this one. I believe in their ability to handle any potential crises." Mokgetsu said with a smile.

He chose the mission precisely because it involved going abroad. Without risk, he wouldn't want to take it.

The registry ninja didn't persuade further, helped them register, and informed them of the client's current location.

"What kind of risks will we encounter? An ambush by enemy ninjas?" Obito said with some excitement after leaving the Hokage Building.

"You should read fewer novels. C-Class Missions don't have the kind of crises you imagine." Kakashi said speechlessly.

An ambush by ninjas? If you encounter ninjas during a C-Class Mission, you should report back to the village.

Subsequently, Mokgetsu and his team went to the inn where the client was resting and found the client who posted the mission.

"Are you the ninjas who took on the mission? So young and capable!" A slightly plump middle-aged man was momentarily stunned upon seeing Obito and Kakashi, then praised them with a cheerful smile.

"I am Numata Yoshikane, the client for this mission. These two are my wife and daughter." Numata Yoshikane briefly introduced.

"I am Habu Mokgetsu, the team leader for this mission." Mokgetsu nodded, also introducing himself briefly.

"Uncle, you have a good eye for people. I'm the number one at the Ninja Academy!" Obito said beamingly.

"Number one, does that mean you're really strong, big brother?" Numata Yoshikane's daughter blinked her big eyes and said.

"Of course." Obito showed a proud expression.

"I don't remember you being number one when I was in school." Kakashi suddenly said.

"Eh, was he just boasting?" The little girl showed a puzzled expression.

"That's because you graduated early." Obito tried his best to explain.

He continued talking about how he took first place twice, which still made him first, and how the final academic year's weight was greater, and so forth.

Though the little girl didn't understand what Obito was explaining, she found his flushed face and animated gestures amusing, which made her giggle, lightening the atmosphere considerably.

After a brief mutual understanding, it was time to get down to business. Upon learning that Numata Yoshikane was ready to leave, Mokgetsu suggested setting off immediately.

Perhaps considering he was with his wife and daughter, Numata Yoshikane prepared a carriage.

Numata Yoshikane and his family rode in the carriage while Mokgetsu and the students ran alongside.

Compared to the speed of ninjas, the carriage was not fast. Needless to say, Mokgetsu and even Obito found it easy going, able to chat while running.

When resting at night, the group gathered to chat for a bit. It was then Mokgetsu learned why Numata Yoshikane appeared so smooth and diplomatic.

Numata Yoshikane was a merchant, but despite doing business in the Land of Fire, he was actually from the Land of Rice Fields. His whole family belonged to the Land of Rice Fields.

Due to the war, Numata Yoshikane was concerned about potential dangers on the way home, so he posted a C-Class Mission in Konoha.

"I wonder when the Ninja World will come to peace. With the four major countries declaring war on each other, it's becoming hard to do business." Numata Yoshikane sighed.

Frequent wars made it hard for someone like him, who just wanted to do business in peace. It hadn't even been ten years since the last great war, and now major countries were rapidly clashing again.

"Don't worry, uncle, stay in our Land of Fire and you'll be safe with us Konoha Ninjas here. Other countries can't get in." Obito said, patting his chest.

"The strength of Konoha Ninjas is indeed trustworthy." Numata Yoshikane nodded, an acknowledged fact in the Ninja World.

The escort mission proceeded smoothly thereafter. Until they left the country, Mokgetsu and others did not encounter any attacks, nor did they see a single bandit blocking the way, let alone ninjas.

This left Obito quite disappointed. Where was the promised risk? Escort, travel, rest, cultivate—with the occasional teasing of the little girl, it was no different from normal times.

"This is what C-Class Missions are like; your imagination is too vivid." Kakashi said.

After all his C-Class Missions, he had never encountered ninjas during one.

However, once they left the Land of Fire, things got livelier. Occasionally, some foolish bandits tried to rob them, but they were no match at all. Might Guy's single kick took them all down.

On the first night out of the country, while Mokgetsu was mulling over his Combined Ninjutsu, a rustling sound came from a large tree not far from where Mokgetsu and the others were resting, making the leaves rattle.

"Trying to lure us over with such blatant movements, huh?" Mokgetsu raised his glasses, unfazed. The Byakugan was indeed a very convenient ability.
