Chapter 55 - Chapter 54: Good Person

Pokémon Egg!

In the soft, dry heap of grass, a Pokémon Egg emitting a faint glow lies quietly in the dim mountain cave.

It seems to have sensed Yujira's approach, as the Pokémon Egg gently trembles.

"Yong..."

The voice is extremely weak, and only in this secluded cave can it be barely heard.

Natsuhiko and Weedle stopped in their tracks, but upon seeing the Pokémon Egg, Yujira didn't want to just wait and couldn't help but call out, urging them to bring it closer.

Upon hearing the voice, Natsuhiko came to his senses, glanced at Yujira with a complicated expression, and helped it reach the front of the Pokémon Egg.

It turns out that this Yujira is a mother.

And a mother's instinct before death is to worry about its child.

But for some reason, Natsuhiko felt a bitterness in his throat, and a pang in his heart.

This Yujira, like the last Drowzee, is a product of experiments, its spirit extremely unstable, and it harbors a deep resentment toward humans.

Regarding its attack, Natsuhiko and Weedle suddenly felt at ease.

Imagine a Pokémon being captured by humans for research, subjected to various inhuman attempts; how could it not despise humans? Hate humans?

Yet, he never expected that this Yujira actually has a child...

What brings it back to sanity amidst near-furious madness is only its child, the instinct of a mother.

Yujira is placed beside the Pokémon Egg.

Its hands gently rest on the Pokémon Egg, eyes filled with the light of a mother, along with an immense unwillingness to part.

Unable to witness its child being born, unable to witness its child being born, its only hope now is for its child to grow up healthy and happy, free from the torment of experiments, to grow smoothly and see the world on its behalf.

"Yong... Yong..." Yujira's weak voice rings again, surrounding the Pokémon Egg, as if conveying reluctance and entrusting.

Child, don't be picky with food, eat more so you can grow healthy, sleep early every day, don't stay up late, make friends, the number doesn't matter, as long as you make true friends, study more, learn about the world, don't be too proud, learn to read, and aim to be a Pokémon with principles...

And... and... and... and mom hopes to be with you as you grow, mom... loves you.

Weedle understands Yujira's final whisper, its eyes instantly well up with tears.

Is this motherly love?

It has never experienced motherly love.

Although Natsuhiko doesn't understand, he can grasp Yujira's general meaning, and doesn't feel good inside.

Then he sees Yujira squeezing a smile, its hands on the Pokémon Egg continuously transmitting supernatural power into the Egg.

"Is it using its supernatural powers to better nurture the Pokémon Egg?"

Transmission exists between Pokémon, there's no doubt about it.

Many inherited techniques of Pokémon come from their parents, and the state, physical quality, and talent of newborn Pokémon are strongly related to their parents.

It's likely Yujira has been doing this since the Pokémon Egg was conceived.

And Yujira may know it doesn't have long to live, daily nurturing the Pokémon Egg at fixed times; when fighting Fire Monkey earlier, it regained sanity because the time arrived to return to care for the Egg.

It's hard to imagine that Yujira, nearly lost to complete madness, regains sanity because its child's time arrived, such is the magnitude of maternal love required to achieve this?

Now.

Yujira is done.

It sends its last bit of supernatural power into the Pokémon Egg, accelerating the fading of its life like a candle in the wind.

"Yong..."

Yujira lightly opens its mouth, makes a sound, its gaze falling on a nearby Natsuhiko with a complex expression.

Before he realizes it, Weedle comes near, bites Natsuhiko's pant leg, pulling him toward Yujira.

"Hm?" Natsuhiko, being dragged by Weedle, arrives before Yujira.

After slight hesitation, he crouches down, observing its intensely weak and exhausted form.

In the end, this Yujira is also a failed product of Rocket Team's experiment, but by rights, even if failed, it shouldn't die so quickly, even with the burden of a child worsening its condition.

"Yong..." Yujira calls softly once more.

This time, Natsuhiko understands, or rather, reads from Yujira's eyes.

Raising his hand.

Under Yujira's watchful gaze, he gently places his hand on the Pokémon Egg, after some contemplation he solemnly says, "Okay."

Upon hearing these words, Yujira's eyes reveal gratitude, before giving one last look at the Pokémon Egg, eyes containing so much...

Gradually, its eyes lose the last trace of brilliance and its hands slide off the Pokémon Egg.

Seeming to feel the disappearance of Yujira's aura, the Pokémon Egg trembles once more.

Natsuhiko hesitates briefly, picks up the Pokémon Egg, cradling it in his arms.

Feeling the warmth again, the Pokémon Egg finally stops trembling and falls into a deep quietude.

Hugging the Pokémon Egg tighter, he gently sighs, his heart filled with an indescribable feeling.

"Hmm." Weedle climbs onto Natsuhiko, approaches the Pokémon Egg, carefully nuzzling it with its cheek.

One person, one Pokémon, now with a Pokémon Egg, sits quietly in the cave for a long time.

Unaware of how much time has passed, Natsuhiko finally snaps back to reality and takes a deep breath, saying, "What did Yujira say at the end?"

"Hmm..."

It said you're a good person.

Natsuhiko: "..."

Same with the Drowzee, why is Yujira also randomly handing out good person cards?

Don't they know good person cards shouldn't be given out indiscriminately?

He's very aware and accurate about himself, he's not a good person, not necessarily a bad person, but certainly not a good one.

"Hmm... Zzzzzz." Weedle calls out again.

Careful, zzzzzz.

"Hm? Why this again?" Natsuhiko frowns.

Did you all plan this?

Can only say "good person" and "zzzzzz"?

These two lines unquestionably tie the relationship between this Yujira and that Drowzee completely together.

"Looks like there's more mystery than imagined." Temporarily placing the Pokémon Egg on the ground, he and Weedle together dug a pit for Yujira.

Despite injuring him, both Natsuhiko and Weedle forgave it, let it rest peacefully here; later, he might bring its child back to pay respects, for a great mother.

Picking up the Pokémon Egg again, he takes one last look around the small cave, and with Weedle, departs.

And upon stepping outside, he finds traces of wild Pokémon activity, although not many, they do exist.

With Yujira's death, the Pokémon originally residing here returned.

Given Yujira's formerly volatile nature, what wild Pokémon could endure it?

But since the wild Pokémon have returned, it indicates his target Tangela may also return?

If Tangela can indeed be seen, then encountering Yujira this time, was it an accident, coincidence, or... planned?
