Unspeakable, a profession whose name alone suggests seriousness and diligence; in Kael's understanding, they are supposed to be meticulous and silent workers.
Take Diana, for example; she was much more rigorous when in the Department of Mysteries compared to at home.
But this one, Kael felt, was watching him as if he were a joke... much like seeing Fred and George playing the fool, not helping but rather delighting in the chaos from the sidelines.
He rubbed his forehead.
How to put it, this Unspeakable seemed a bit too lively, not as serious as he imagined.
However, seriousness aside, Kael had other concerns; he stepped forward and said, "I have something to ask..."
"Sure."
Before he could finish speaking, the Unspeakable nodded.
"What?" Kael was stunned.
"You're here to ask me to pass a message to Diana, aren't you?" the Unspeakable said.
"You know?" Kael asked in confusion, "Did you overhear our previous conversation?"
"No, and it's not necessary," the Unspeakable shook her head, "Normally, you'd be at Hogwarts, but now you're at the Department of Mysteries. What else could you be here for besides looking for Diana?"
"Sounds about right… Wait, how do you know I'm at Hogwarts," Kael blurted, then quickly closed his mouth.
He's been pretending to be Dumbledore at school, which absolutely must remain a secret, so his visits to Hogwarts were tightly guarded, known only to himself and a few professors.
He was momentarily dazed and had accidentally admitted it.
Kael shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts.
"Confused?" the Unspeakable glanced at him, "Or did you think Albus's use of the Time Turner could escape the Department of Mysteries's notice?
"That spans a hundred years, such a massive time span that even the mist in the Time Retrospect Hall almost started spreading; if the Department of Mysteries didn't notice anything, we might as well shut down."
"Um..." Kael was at a loss for words.
He nearly forgot that the Department of Mysteries deals with intangible concepts like time and space; if someone uses a Time Turner, they would definitely know.
"Godric's Hollow, the living room in Ms. Bagshot's home, right?" the Unspeakable continued, "After you used the Time Turner, we conducted an investigation there immediately. Even though there were many people around back then, it wasn't hard to deduce that only you participated."
"Why," Kael asked, "Why just me?"
"Because of the Phoenix," the Unspeakable explained patiently, "A Phoenix is a unique Fantastic Beast; it doesn't just get close to anyone. Since you have it, it says everything. Any other questions?"
"So you have been tracking me ever since?" he asked.
"Not at all; tracking sounds too harsh," the Unspeakable said, "After all, you're Diana's family. We simply paid careful attention to your movements and discovered that on September 1st, you went to King's Cross Station to send someone off to school... that Harry Potter.
"But you weren't among those who returned, so we inferred that you also took the train to Hogwarts."
"Couldn't I have left early using Apparition?" Kael said.
Then he saw the Unspeakable looking at him with a peculiar gaze.
"Okay, I just said something stupid," Kael felt a bit embarrassed.
The Magic Transportation Department can trace Apparition marks; if the Department of Mysteries has been observing him, they must have prepared ahead.
"It's okay, I understand. Don't worry about it," the Unspeakable laughed... or seemed to be laughing.
"You don't need me to elaborate on what happened next, right?" she continued, "You went to Hogwarts, and subsequently, Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore appeared at the start-of-term feast."
"No need," Kael shook his head, "So, you also know my purpose in coming to the Department of Mysteries this time, right?
"If you've been observing me all along, you must also know about my trip to France and what happened there."
"That, uh... we actually don't know," the Unspeakable emphasized, "I must reiterate, we haven't been following you; we merely made assumptions based on your itinerary and subsequent events. Diana knows you too well, which makes it easy for us."
Diana?
Kael smirked.
If it's his mom, then all of this makes sense.
"And even though you went to Beauxbatons, we had no way to access it, so naturally, we don't know what you experienced there."
"However..." she changed the subject, "Based on Diana's assumptions, you came to the Department of Mysteries because you noticed Albus Dumbledore was trapped in the past and want to rescue him."
"Yes," Kael nodded, admitting, "I want to know what I should do."
"It's best to do nothing," the Unspeakable said, "Just leave the matter to others, and you'll naturally have no worries. I think Minerva McGonagall is a good choice; she's capable and thoughtful, totally able to bring Albus Dumbledore back from the past."
"I know, but I have a feeling that I'm meant to handle this," Kael said.
"Is that so?" the Unspeakable paused, "Then likewise, do nothing and let things take their course."
