Ren stood in the Hall's eastern annex — a chamber Vaelith had commandeered three weeks ago for the bloodline investigation, converting it from a storage space into something that looked increasingly like a war room. Crystal arrays lined both walls, each one a node of light connected by thin threads of essence to the central clan tree. The left wall held the crystals of demons recorded as dead. The right wall held the crystals of living mixed-blood descendants whose bloodlines traced back to those dead.
Except the dead weren't dead.
