Chapter 1 - 1

My name is agu chinecherem (blessing)I'm from imo state Nigeria and this is my story.

It was late at night as we were rushing to the river bank, me, my mom, chidera my immediate younger, mom was holding chineye and backing ifeanyi. We were going to enter a boat or should I call it ship?

Why were we rushing...my dad was owing some people it wasn't exactly owing because they put it on his head, they plotted to kill us and sell everything we have in other to pay for the depts.

I was 6/½.

"Mummy mummy!!"

"Kedu ife oo"

"Mummy when are we going to reach there"

"Very soon neche just hold your brother well"

"Ok, mummy see I'm seeing light already"

"Yes you see I told you we will soon get there"

I was just an excited little ada that is just supporting mummy.

We got there and I loved the view, I loved the sea I mean....it gave me fresh air even though It scared me it scares me because I couldn't and I haven't still learnt how to swim.

Few minutes later my dad also came with the remaining properties, everything was loaded on top of the big boat, it looked like a house. All other kids were going up and jumping but I and my siblings couldn't because 1 we were shy, 2 I was a scardy cat when it came to heights,3 mum wouldn't let us. Dad loaded everything and helped us get inside before leaving.

Inside was very cool, I loved it so much my mum put some clothes for us to lie down, not me though because I was too excited to sleep.i was discussing with my mom about so many things (childish talks) a little time I was dozing off and I heard it.

"Jesus Jesus Jesus!!"

I stood up immediately and dragged my brother up started running to the exit, my mom dragged us back.

"Where are you going sit down here, if we will die we die here"

It was a fire outbreak.

I was shaking and crying at the same time, holding my brother so tight, my mom was quiet, I looked at her and she wasn't shaking or crying like other people.

"Mummy ka ayi gba oso"

"Nne nmba, we will be here if you run where are you running to, we are in the middle of oshimiri where do you think you are going "

Everyone was praying, as the fire grew, after a few minutes we heard it died down and that everywhere was good now.

"Praise the Lord!!!!"

A woman screamed.

"Hallelujah"

We responded.

The journey continued and I wasn't able to sleep.

I heard my mom on a call with my dad, they were discussing how we will get to okija once we arrive at asaba shore.

After a few hours I slept off but woke up immediately or so I thought because it was already 5:30.

"Mummy have we not reached the place?"

"Small time nne"

"Ok I can't wait "

I said excitedly as I moved close to the window to take a look outside, I put my hand out and touched the water, I felt very refreshed and!!!

"Huaabnnaaaaaa"

That was my brother vomiting.

I felt disgusted but Mom told me to hold the baby so she'd clean him up.

I offered to help but she just told me to sit still with the baby while she cleans.

"Chineche"

"Yes"

I turned it was my best friend ifunaya.

"Did you sleep?"

"Yes small"

"Lie lie you sleep for long"

"Ask my mummy, mummy shebi I slept only small"

"Yes small"

"Hmmm even me too"

"Lies I saw you sleeping, should I ask your mummy "

"No"

My mum laughed and I laughed leaving ifunaya angry as she slaps my head and went back to her big sister side.

The big boat kept moving leaving me in awe at how such a big house could go ontop of water....boom I asked my mom.

"Can mummy water make this boat break "

"Shut up" she slapped my mouth.

I couldn't cry because I was a big girl I wouldn't want anyone to look at me.

I kept quiet throughout the remaining journey.

We got there and everyone started going out, it was ifunaya's turn to laugh at me because I was scared of heights, I had to climb down holding my brother and it was war.mom couldn't carry all of us at a time, I followed her shaking and crying at the same time, I forgot people were staring at me.

Ifunaya who climbed down already was laughing at me which made me cry more.

As a 6 years old you will be supprised I remember all these but I actually do reasons unknown.
