The machines were already beeping when we all crowded around the table, this low buzz that drilled straight into my skull and made my teeth itch. Yu Jin was lying there in the middle of it all, shirt off, wires stuck to his chest, IV dripping something clear into his arm, face pale but eyes open, looking around at every one of us like he was memorizing faces for the last time.
His mom was clutching his hand so tight her knuckles were white, whispering nonstop, "You don't have to do this, baby, we can find another way, please," and his dad stood behind her but not saying a word because his jaw was locked so hard I thought it might snap. And probably cuz he wanted this to work.
Park Min was on the other side, holding Yu Jin's other hand, not crying anymore but eyes red and swollen, staring down at him like if he blinked Yu Jin would disappear. "You better not fucking leave me," he muttered, voice rough and low. "I swear to god if you die I'll kill you myself."
