The shinobi poured the liquid again, this time in a larger quantity. As soon as the pain kicked in and the the guy closed his eyes in pain again. With all the strength and speed I could muster. I pulled the kunai and stabbed it into his heart. He reacted and backhanded me, sending me flying into the other wall. My shoulder hurt, and the back of my head felt like a jackhammer. I groaned and tried to stand up as quickly as I could. Only to see the light go out of the shinobi's eyes. When I flew back had held onto the kunai.
If you don't know, let me tell you, roughly pulling out the stabbing weapon makes the damage and bleeding way worse. As the adrenaline slowed, I took a deep breath. My arm hurt a lot, but I still walked over. Cautiously poking the dead man. A small ding sounded in my ears.

My gamble paid off. I had forgotten a cardinal rule of system novels. The kill bonus. But keeping all that for later, I quickly began to search the two genins. I picked up the sword and put it in the sheath. I also robbed the first one's clothes. He died from a shuriken in the eye so his clothes were clean I took the small bag that one of them was carrying along with the two ninja tool bags. I then proceeded to take all the shurikens, kunais, scrolls, and bottles that I could find then ran out into the still deserted street.
I ran and ran until I came to the edge of the village. It was almost a forest here. I went in and kept going. Slowly, I reached the edge of a lake. I was praying to all the powers that be that nobody saw me. Although it was very early, and good shinobis rarely came to the slums. There was still a chance that a hidden anbu saw what I did. After a few minutes, when nobody pursued, I breathed a sigh of relief.
I took off my clothes and washed myself. I then wore the better clothes and dug to hide my old ones before sitting down to see the loot. The reason I did this before was to ward off suspicion. A beggar in the forest with ninja tools was suspicious. A shinobi with kunai was absolutely normal. I put on the headband I had stolen.
Just so you know, these weren't the official Shinobi clothes and green vest. But casual ones anyone could buy from shops. He had seen them being sold in the market. Which is why I had dared to steal.
I first started with the Ryo. There was a total of 200 Ryo on them combined. Then came the ninja tool bags. Both of them were half full with 11 and 9 kunai, respectively. I transferred them to one bag. And strapped it to my thigh like I had seen. There were some small bottles. But I had no idea what they were. So I just kept them in the special jacket pocket made to hold bottles. Only one bottle's contents I knew. It had 5 small balls, which I understood to be military ration pills. I popped one in and kept the rest. I had stolen one sword. I carefully inspected it for marks or any special features. I found nothing to identify it as anything special, but the sheath was marked, so I threw it away. Now the scrolls.
JACKPOT! But there was one. A basic Fuinjutsu instruction manual. It had only one thing - Explosion tag creation, but that was enough. Now I had a way to learn my very first skill. From skills I just remembered. The System. I had forgotten about it in my satisfaction with a clean bath and a full stomach. (The pills were really effective.)
But I decided to complete my physical loot first. I looked to see that there were 4 explosion tags and a bundle of 50 chakra papers to make them. Along with a chakra ink pot. Everything I need if I could just unlock my chakra. The bag also had a few packets of blue powder. Drugs. Which explained the meet and fight. I could sell maybe, so I just pushed them back into the bag and opened the system.

I started to feel a bit frustrated. And randomly clicked here and there to see if something had changed. I accidentally touched the Chakra - 0(Locked), and a push notification came up.

For a moment, I froze, and my breath hitched. Yes! Yes! Fuck Yes!
I pushed it without hesitation.
A slow current ran through my body. It kept on going as I started to get a feel for the energy flowing through me. As I felt, I noticed I could influence it very subtly. Chakra, This was Chakra. I was finally starting my true journey. Tears came to my eyes.
I looked at the notification.

I opened it to see a tree with 5 branches. Each had a small circle with something written on its base.

I still had 520 SS left. So I started thinking. Soul was out of reach; no need to think. To refine Chakra, I needed a technique, so 300 goes to that definitely. I clicked the option, and a small current in my mind gave me an instinctual understanding of basic Chakra refining. Its next upgrade needed 300SS, so I moved on to Phisiique and Chakra Volume. I needed that. I decided on 5 times Volume and 5 times Physique with 20 SS in balance. Going back to 0 didn't sit well with me.
