Chapter 4 - Two Years Later

Look, I know and I understand your frustration, all that you were looking for and the main reason that made you turn over this page was because you were so anxious to find out what really happened after the whole thing with the family library bursting into flames and me turning into crisp.

For now, you'll forgive me, I'm not ready to tell you that. Already, I feel embarrassed that I told you that I was burned into crisp. Now can you imagine a 3-year-old baby boy, naked and had become an overcooked meat?

As time goes on, and maybe when I've gathered enough courage, I'll let you in on a secret on what happened after. But for now, I'll just tell you the parts that my mother had told me. There might be some minor spoilers, so bear with me.

Apparently, from what my mother told me, when they found me I was actually back to normal. The burnt and overcooked skin had disappeared, and I was just lying there. They didn't think much about it, and they assumed that maybe one of their enemies maybe tried to kidnap, but when the family's security barrier triggered—

That explosion was meant for the enemy, which meant that they didn't find anything off leading. The whole place had burnt down and became ashes, so they didn't even see the mana awakening ritual that I did without them knowing, which was a relief, cause I was in the clear despite being the real reason for the library getting a really bad renovation.

That was two years ago. After that, my mother and father kinda did make up, and though things weren't the same as before, at least my father had access to me. And because of the fear and everything, he had decided that since I was going to become a servant to my sister, why don't I actually take part in training so when that incident happens again, I can not only protect my sister but myself too.

He and my mother had come to an understanding with that, which was a really good thing for me, cause now it meant I could know other people rather than knowing only my mother, which by the way, I'm not complaining about.

And if my mother is by accidently reading this, I love you, Mom, and again sorry for the whole almost burning the whole family castle down.

Time had passed on quicker than I anticipated. Now it was two years later, which meant that now I was 5 years old.

Before my training, all that I always began with was some school work—you know, learning, studying, and writing some exams, which by the way, it didn't matter which timeline or world you end up in—school has always stayed the same.

Today, I was getting ready to be prepared for my exam on Friday. Yep, you heard me correct—Friday. I may be in a new world that is filled with magic, but the days, months, weeks, and years were the same as my previous life.

I was sitting at my desk, which was located in one of the castle's secret rooms. I was waiting for my teacher, Ms. Forge, who is always on time, but today she's late by an hour.

I was playing around with my pencil. I know, in the era that I'm in, I'm not supposed to have a pencil, let alone even know what it is. But despite me being in an advanced Victorian-era world, pencils weren't invented yet—they still used those ink writing things, which by the way, though I was born into this world and I know almost everything about it, I still don't know the name of that thing.

So to let you ease down with a million questions—I conjured it.

So I was really starting to get bored. I mean, who wouldn't get bored? I was freaking alone in this place. The only thing that kept me company were my achievements that Ms. Forge had decided to place all over the room, for what reason, I wouldn't even tell you.

Time was waiting for no one. That hour had turned into one and a half hour, then became two hours. I was so bored that I actually stood up and created my own formula to solve.

"Damn it, where is that old hag?" I pretended to look at my watch, which I didn't have.

I really wanted to leave this place. To me, it meant that if the teacher didn't show up in an hour after classes commenced, it meant that school was cancelled. So big ups to me for being all grown up and waiting this long.

I waited another thirty minutes. I kept myself distracted. I paced up and down, conjured some snacks to eat while I'm at it. I even acted out as Ms. Forge, you know, just to keep myself entertained.

I had transformed into her and looked exactly like her.

"You know, Mr. Morningstar, if you want to be a strong mage someday, you have to know that education is the path you'll have to take. Forget about having fun, and forget about feeling like you are missing out, because you are not."

Ms. Forge was like a 70-year-old mage. She was always dressed in bright colours, and her favourite was actually pink. She'd wear a bright pink three suit, wear a hat that had different coloured feathers, and she would wear black socks and those shoes that women often wore during the era of the first invention of technology—and they were pink.

So can you imagine that I was stupid enough to imagine myself as that? So I did, and I smelled like I rolled myself in a cat's litter box.

Not that I didn't enjoy role-playing as her, but eventually I got bored, so I decided to sneak out of the class—that's what I'll call it.

I walked around the castle. I never realised that the castle was so massive. There were other rooms that I've never seen before, I've never even dared to explore.

But none of them really interested me, so I just kept walking around. The maids, the guards, and every helper that worked for my family saw me, and they never bothered to ask me anything. All that they did was just greet me.

"Morning, Master Persues."

Those were all their greetings, and they would bow down before me.

But as always, there's this one person who always sticks their nose where it doesn't belong, and for me, it was none other than my weapon-wielding trainer, Mr. Norse, which was a very weird last name.

I was distracted, busy looking around. I didn't see him until we bumped into each other, because if I saw him, I was going to hide quick.

"Oh, I'm sorry," I apologized.

At first, I didn't see him. I thought that maybe it was one of the helpers. When I raised my head to look, that's when I saw him—and damn, this guy was really tall.

"Ah, Mr. Persues Morningstar, aren't you supposed to be in class right about now?" Mr. Norse looked down on me.

"Shoot," I said out loud instead of saying it inside my head.

"Well then, why aren't you in class?" He looked at me weird.

"Uhm, it's lunch, so I was going to the kitchen to get something to eat," I lied.

"Oh, is that so?" He asked as if he wasn't buying my story.

"Yes, you know how Ms. Forge is. When it's lunchtime, instead of going for lunch, she takes a nap." I chuckled awkwardly.

He just looked at me before he could say anything.

"Very well, go to your lunch. But don't forget that you have a class with me too," he said, as he moved me out of the way.

"Please don't remind me about it," I sighed with dissatisfaction.

"Excuse me, what was that?" He turned around.

"Nothing, I was just asking to see if you want something from the kitchen," I lied to him again.

This guy was really no fun. Instead of telling me no like a normal person, he just turned and faced where he was heading, then he walked off.

For me, that was a relief, because I wasn't really planning to go to the kitchen. After those snacks I conjured, I was full.

So I continued with my exploration. This really reminded me of the good old times when I would crawl across these walls. I accidentally came across the library—or at least where the library used to be. Now it was nothing but a pile of ash.

I stopped there for a full second. I was busy being indecisive with myself. I wanted to open the door to see what was there, because I didn't remember well. Actually, I saw myself about inches away from opening the door. I swear for a second it felt like I wasn't in control, like something was telling me to go inside.

The truth was, I almost gave in, but I got distracted by the noise that was coming two rooms down from the library.

Curiosity always gets the best out of me, and so I went to check what was that.

Lucky for me, I found the door slightly opened, which meant I didn't have to do much. I leaned in to peek. Everything seemed blurry, and all I could see was a sword moving around.

Which I presume that someone was training.
