Chapter 142 - Chapter 56: Cyberware Upgrade

Or maybe just set up a server myself, specifically for the Soulkiller Program, then I can have a 'mini Divine Chariot' too.

An AI that can control the Soulkiller is far inferior to the AI capable of controlling the Black Wall, like the one from the Military Science Type 6 model. Mercer isn't too bad with a couple of rogue AIs...

If the AI I raise isn't strong enough, I could get Ultraman and the others to help capture a rogue AI... shouldn't be too hard, right?

The more Mercer thought about it, the more he felt his judgment was correct. At least, as long as the AI is wiped, this Network Access Vault can be used now!

The hardware conditions of this Network Access Vault can basically rival the Military Science Type 6, with a massive 11 standard unit memory, ultra-fast network transmission, top-tier CPU, and GPU...

Who needs a bicycle!

"Old Wei, what do you think about directly formatting the program inside?" Mercer said.

Victor replied with a soft hum: "Sure, but if you do that, your network receiver will only have the hardware left. You'll have to handle all the software on your own, even the basic operating programs need to be redone.

But I think this might be better. The program in here... how should I put it, after looking at it myself, to be honest, I don't understand it.

Arasaka's software is a bit of a mess, but the hardware level is indeed very high. I can say it's the best Network Access Vault I've ever seen.

You can directly transplant your MK2 operating system and program over, optimize it a bit, and it should be compatible."

Mercer, decisive and straightforward, said, "I'll format it myself and install it today."

"Today? Mercer, haven't your previous surgeries fully healed yet?" Victor said, disapprovingly.

But Mercer was determined: "I feel my body is fine, you can tell as well, I don't feel the slightest discomfort. You could say the previous enhancements were like changing a part, no burden at all."

"...You're really crazy."

Victor paused what he was doing as someone from Qilu Company delivered a package.

He said to Mercer, "Go get it, the prosthetic eye you ordered has arrived. I told them to leave it at the door, it's just outside."

Mercer got up to retrieve it for him. Qilu Company's delivery speed was no joke; in barely over twenty minutes, it was delivered to this remote alley.

V got up to help, and while carrying the refrigerated box containing the prosthetic with him, whispered, "Why not listen to the doctor? Is it really necessary to rush into replacing equipment?"

"Firstly, because I feel I can handle it, and secondly... we're about to work on that biotechnology job, so I have to ensure I'm in top condition."

After Mercer spoke, V said nothing more, merely glanced at him a few times, somewhat worried, and then returned to sit on the sofa.

Determined, Mercer formatted all the programs of the 'Soulkiller Protocol' Network Access Vault.

He borrowed Old Wei's spare nano mechanical gloves, slipping them on his own arm, and gave himself a shot of stabilizer.

Victor was a bit worried he wasn't skilled enough but was surprised by Mercer's adept movements: "You've used similar ones before?"

"Arasaka's prosthetic courses even teach you to perform surgeries. We use the Super Dream Headband to immerse ourselves in hands-on practice. I've gone through similar processes during training.

Old Wei, I'm at least a graduate of the intermediate courses, and I've covered half the advanced courses... unfortunately, due to lack of time, I didn't finish.

However, in Arasaka's terms, your type of operation is called an 'emergency measure.' They don't use these external mechanical hands anymore, directly modifying their arms is more efficient."

"I'm not like you, I have no interest in modifications, but you're impressive for graduating from Arasaka's intermediate course. That's no small feat."

Seeing his skilled actions, Victor stopped worrying and focused on replacing Qiwei's prosthetic eye during her deep sleep.

Who knows how long it took.

Old Wei spoke up, "Qiwei's surgery is done..."

"Qiwei, take a rest first." Mercer didn't even look up.

He shut off power to the Network Access Vault, separately removed the program and storage chips, planning to format each one.

These chips were extremely delicate, and Mercer had to be exceptionally careful to avoid a situation where, if some special program was set in the embedded AI, it would launch an electronic counter-attack during formatting, eventually frying the chip...

The most straightforward method is to first open them up, ensuring the chip can't mobilize the vault's CPU and GPU, then restrict the power voltage to prevent the chip from overclocking.

Finally, try to see if it can be formatted; if not, then the only option would be to directly delete and rewrite the chip's program.

Qiwei let out a quiet hum, massaging her head as V supported her to the sofa to rest, then immediately lay down.

Old Wei gave himself another shot—V, noticing, asked curiously, "I see those doctors modify their hands. Old Wei, why don't you try? Constantly getting shots must be uncomfortable, right?"

"It's okay. Actually, my arm has plenty of strength, but the precision required for surgeries is very high. Just in case, because, you know, I'm getting older."

Old Wei smiled gently, "Don't be nervous."

V shook his head, just glancing at Mercer, whispering, "How much is that Sianwistan he's going to install for me?"

Victor chuckled: "Hard to say... if you buy it from the company, it might be several hundred thousand, but this is a second-hand, repaired one, so it's not that expensive."

"Even so, it must cost two or three hundred thousand..." V felt a bit anxious.
