Chapter 253 - Chapter 72: Struck It Rich, Spent It All

"Holy crap..." V slapped the table, realizing the key point, and said, "Won't the biotechnology stock prices skyrocket again!?"

"Yes." Mercer replied calmly, "Not just the stock price. More importantly, she announced the news through Channel 54. I bet even Military Science's stock prices surged as a result."

V cursed, "And now she's the only remaining developer for this immune agent?"

"Yes, I suspect that Diana will likely get a promotion and a raise next, taking full charge of further development of the immune agent as the project leader in collaboration with Military Science."

Mercer continued.

V, puzzled, lowered his voice and spoke stealthily to him, "Doesn't Military Science realize this immune agent is just a scam?"

"How can it be a scam? Aren't the current test results of the immune agent quite good? There's no such thing as one hundred percent success in drug development. Diana just needs to prove that her immune agent has a success rate."

After Mercer finished, V frowned, "So we can use the evidence we have to expose her to Military Science now?"

"I guess not." Mercer gently tapped the bar, his tone meaningful, "Diana knows we're aware that this immune agent is a 'scam' and have lots of related evidence. Would she foolishly leave us any handle?"

"You mean..." V was a bit shocked.

"If I'm not wrong, she's likely already confessed to Military Science that the developed immune agent can't achieve total virus immunity.

But, Diana must have used other means to persuade Military Science to continue investing in her new project. As for what this new project is..."

Mercer shook his head, "We'll have to wait for some time to find out."

"Then what you want is going down the drain, isn't it? If she really settles down in her position, will the little we have make her obedient?" V asked in confusion.

Mercer propped his chin with one hand, shaking his head, "Of course not... but it doesn't matter. I guess she'll still obediently hand over the goods, though there's a high chance she'll set a trap for us when she does."

"Hmm..." V pondered, finally guessing the reason, "Right, she probably doesn't even know who's threatening her now."

"Hard to say, it depends on whether Wagako is willing to keep our secret... but it doesn't matter, even if she knows our name, she won't dare to act first."

After Mercer finished speaking, he gave a cold laugh and said, "If we can't catch everything at once, she'll live in fear later. Can we infiltrate the biotechnology company's security unnoticed once but not a second time?

There's no such thing as being vigilant for a thousand days, only a thief for a thousand days. As long as she's not stupid, she'll understand that betrayal gives only one chance."

Before V could ask more, Mercer waved his hand and said, "All right, don't worry, we'll take one step at a time. I won't let us step into a pit, safety first."

"I'd say strike first..." V muttered.

Mercer put down the cup, "You better not think about it, I'll go talk to Rogue."

"Go ahead." V snorted and waved his hand, while Mercer slowly walked to the back compartment.

This time, Rogue wasn't sitting in the fully enclosed booth but in the innermost part of the hall. Generally, as long as there were guards at the entrance, there was no risk of conversation leakage.

When Mercer reached the entrance, her bodyguard first blocked her, "Please wait."

"No need, let him in."

Rogue's voice sounded.

Mercer went in and was delighted at the sight.

"Mann? You guys linked up with Rogue?" Mercer looked at the sturdy Mann, Dolio, and Sasha who gleefully waved at him, his voice a bit teasing.

Mann grinned, "Sort of, I feel it's thanks to you."

"Oh?" Mercer turned to Rogue.

Rogue calmly explained, "These guys found me and said after hearing your words, they felt working for Faraday is a bit dangerous, so they wanted to take more jobs from me in the future.

I thought you had a good eye for people, so I decided to give it a shot."

Mercer understood—Rogue probably figured out that he had chatted with Mann and the others for quite a while at the bar, even trying to recruit them.

Mercer looked around and sat next to Sasha, mainly because Mann and Dolio sitting together made the couch there seem a bit crowded.

"So that's basically the deal. If you feel competent then take it, if not, I'll have A handle it."

After Rogue finished, Mann and the others exchanged a glance and nodded, "No problem, we'll do it."

"The task details will be sent to you later, prepare and handle it yourselves when you're ready."

After Rogue finished, Mann and the others got up voluntarily, "How about a drink later? It's been a while since I've seen your people, A."

"I've been busy settling down, took a break for a while. By the way, I opened a shop, weapons modification, prosthetic modification, custom programs, all sorts of stuff, you can come to me."

After Mercer finished, Mann showed some interest, "Then we'll have a good chat later."

"Sure." Mercer nodded, watched them leave, and Sasha gave him a playful wink, reminiscent of the enchanting little white cat in "Tom and Jerry" that mesmerizes Tom.

"Tsk, why do you flirt with every pretty girl?" Rogue looked at him displeased, she hated such men the most, just looking at him made her feel her PTSD flaring up.
