Chapter 267 - Chapter 74: Predators of Cyberspace

In less than a breath, these hackers were sliced apart by the blue armored soldiers flying in the air. The Magic Puppet Program had been fully deployed, and their bodies in reality began to convulse, overheat, and eventually smoke and catch fire.

At this moment, the alarm was already sounding in the Voodoo Gang's server room, causing chaos.

The Voodoo Gang's hacker leader, Brigitte, had actually realized a potential disaster from the fierce ICE confrontation between the Sea God System and Mercer's server.

However, due to her confidence in her hackers and the Sea God System, she didn't immediately choose to forcibly disconnect but cautiously requested to switch the server to local network mode first.

As long as the ICE hadn't been breached, switching the server back to a local network would be equivalent to abruptly pulling the plug, leaving even the strongest enemies helpless without an internet connection.

Moreover, they could safely bring back the few hackers connected to the server, achieving two goals at once.

But just as Brigitte personally began switching the Sea God System to local network mode, the screams from the hackers' chairs sensitized Brigitte to the severity of the situation.

"Hurry! Disconnect the local network devices! Everyone change to squad subnet, restart the server..."

As soon as Brigitte's words fell, the lights in the room and all equipment display lights suddenly began flashing.

"Impossible!" a hacker shouted sharply and, without another word, sprinted towards the nearby safety breaker.

But the automatic turrets originally used for security suddenly activated, and as the foldable turrets deployed, they began automatic targeting.

Brigitte swiftly flipped and hid under the table, while her prosthetic eye flickered with a violent data stream.

She always had great confidence in her hacking skills.

The automatic turret, originally activated by the fire control system, stalled for a moment but then ruthlessly continued to fire, turning the hacker trying to shut off the room power into a sieve in an instant.

"It's a roaming AI! It's an AI!" a hacker shouted in despair yet oddly excited, reaching out from his cover to fervently call out to a camera that coldly stared at him.

"God, don't kill us! We are your most loyal..."

The hacker's words weren't finished before a nearby turret began pouring bullets over him.

"Damn it, the server was hit by the Magic Puppet Program! Idiot!"

Brigitte cast a low curse at the fool but took the opportunity to finally succeed in disabling the distant automatic turret amidst her tug-of-war with the Sea God System.

No time to breathe, Brigitte started sprinting towards the breaker.

But...

Her hand hadn't yet touched the breaker when it suddenly tripped by itself, and the room was left in complete darkness.

A scorched smell also accompanied the sudden darkness.

Brigitte turned stiffly, and the vast Sea God Server room flickered with a few flames, illuminating that space.

"Quick! Put out the fire!" Even Brigitte finally lost her composure at this moment, screaming sharply, "Fire extinguisher! Find a fire extinguisher!"

"Bet! (Beast!) I will kill you!" Brigitte's collapse into shouting finally alerted the Voodoo Gang outside of the abnormality.

Because of the power outage, the automatic doors outside were locked, so the group could only wait for a guy with a Gorilla Arm to force the door open with a crowbar before they could finally come in to support.

"Put out the fire! Put out the fire!"

Then, the Voodoo Gang saw that the always mature and calm Brigitte was now like a madwoman, with one foot almost stepping into the fire, yelling while desperately trying to save her server with a fire extinguisher.

A chaotic frenzy ensued until five minutes later, Brigitte dejectedly plopped onto the ground, staring blankly at the few smoking, scorched servers afar, unable to regain her senses for a long time.

Quick footsteps approached from outside, a burly black man nearly sprinted in.

"Brigitte! What's going on?"

The man showed a stunned expression, looking at the devastated server room filled with a burnt smell.

"Placid! Find out who did this! You must find out who!" Brigitte slammed her fist on the ground fiercely, her eyes red, "I want revenge! I must have revenge!"

"...Who?" Placid only felt his head spin.

"I don't know! Hua Tiao! Internet Supervision! Whoever it is! Find them, we'll kill them!"

Brigitte roared with eyes ablaze, "There are only so few people in Night City who could do this! We will find them!"

"I understand, let's check the losses now. No deep diving for these few days." Placid took a deep breath and calmed down.

He wasn't a hacker, just the head of the Voodoo Gang's violent activities' action department. As the real power figure second only to Brigitte, he was more concerned about how much the gang had lost in assets than Brigitte's anger.

Brigitte's face turned livid, "At least three million euros... This doesn't even include the programs we wrote and the stored data…"

"Damn." Placid mumbled a low curse, "Understood. Slowly does it."

This was almost their pure income for three months, knowing well that they still had to feed so many people under them; it wasn't about spending all earnings on servers.
