Chapter 269 - Chapter 74: Predators of Cyberspace

[Hans: What?]

From just these two simple words, you could see Hans's astonishment.

Buddy, I asked you to handle a few hackers, how did you end up burning their Sea God server? And it hasn't even been that long?

[Hans: Hold on, I'll go confirm with someone. If there's no problem, consider this job over-delivered.]

[Hans: Your efficiency is really something, A.]

He rarely sent so many messages in a row.

Mercer smirked and replied.

[A: Let me know if there's work. I guess this job is settled.]

[Hans: Since you burned their server, it's definitely settled... Let me confirm, and then I'll transfer the money.]

[A: Okay.]

After ending the communication, Mercer stood up. Kyoko was the only one left in the room watching him.

"Everyone's gone out to work, Qiwei and V went to the Heavy Heart Club to do a network upgrade for Hans, and Rebecca took Lucy to scout out the Cleaner Building."

Kyoko told him the situation without waiting for him to ask and then said, "Pira is in the studio upstairs, working on that batch of weapons you bought."

"Alright." Mercer agreed, reaching out to unplug the wires himself. Kyoko noticed his awkwardness and stepped over to unplug the lines from his neck and back.

"Was your task done?" Kyoko asked curiously.

"Pretty much. I burned the Voodoo Gang's Sea God. They shouldn't dare go online carelessly for a while."

After Mercer spoke, Kyoko laughed and said, "I knew it... Lucy even said you'd be busy for a while, but I felt that with your skills, dealing with a bunch of street hackers wouldn't take long."

"You shouldn't underestimate them. This gang's network skills aren't low, considering they have server support, they're no worse than corporate hacks."

After Mercer spoke, he paused and then laughed, "But compared to me, that's another matter."

"You're really amazing!" Kyoko's emotional value was full of admiration.

Mercer smiled and waved his hand, standing up, "Alright, I need to get back to work. You can get on with your tasks."

Kyoko nodded, handing him a can of iced cola and then went to her computer to write code.

But Mercer thought for a bit and didn't immediately start working; instead, he set up a work plan for himself.

The top priority was the upgrade and development of drones and heavy firepower equipment.

Because if all goes as expected, Diana will make a move soon. If we're to snatch something from the hands of a biotech transport convoy, we might even face a tough ambush; weaponry is of utmost importance.

He can't rely on these scraps at hand to deal with transport armored vehicles.

Secondly... the development of the ctOS System can't be stopped. It's almost like a change of pace; the sooner he writes out this program, the greater the benefits to himself.

With this in mind, Mercer said, "I'm heading up to the workshop to tinker with weapons and equipment. Don't dive too deep."

"Okay." Kyoko nodded.

Mercer then headed for the elevator with the iced cola and the Zeta Technology external engineering hand and laptop he bought.

At this moment, Pira was humming a tune, tinkering with a sniper rifle in the workshop on the first floor.

It's a sniper rifle manufactured by the 'Tsunami Defense System' company using 'Bakeneko' technology. A single magazine can hold four large-caliber electromagnetic tungsten-tipped bullets with a charging function, with an effective range of 1800-2400 meters.

Even though Mercer's purchase was second-hand and battle-worn in appearance, whether it's the electromagnetic catapult device or various attachments, they're all quite worn.

But in the hands of a technical expert, these are just minor problems.

"Boss, out for some fresh air?" Pira greeted, noticing Mercer standing beside him, examining the gun together.

"How are you planning to modify it?" Mercer asked as he looked at the 'Bakeneko' sniper rifle that was stripped down to its frame in front of Pira.

"Not sure yet. I'm thinking of studying the electromagnetic catapult first, then see how to modify it."

Pira said as he scratched his head, "I've always tinkered with point kinetic energy weapons, maybe some intelligent fire control chips, but I haven't really messed with technical weapons like this."

"Then go mess around with that Constitutional Military Industry multi-barrel grenade launcher—I hope to increase firepower, even if it's modified into a vehicle-mounted version, it must be able to install armor-piercing grenades."

Mercer said, and Pira clicked his tongue, "Are we planning to go head-to-head with a Behemoth?"

"Better to assume the enemy has even stronger armor, like armored hover transport vehicles, or even professional armored personnel carriers like Demon Lizards," Mercer said.

Pira fell into deep thought and, after mulling it over for a while, suddenly said, "So why not try to think of something with a single-shot rocket launcher?"

"What do you mean?" Mercer raised an eyebrow.

"Like putting together a few single-shot rocket launchers and then study intelligent target-seeking armor-piercing shells... Even if it's just for a single volley, a quad-launcher firing four big missiles at once, I reckon even a Demon Lizard wouldn't come out unscathed."

Pira got excited; he loved tinkering with heavy-duty firepower stuff.

"That'd be like firing tens of thousands of Euros in a single shot." Mercer thought for a bit and still nodded, "I'd prefer something that can provide frequent, multi-round heavy firepower suppression, but having a one-time big killer isn't bad either."

"And I guess time is pretty tight?" Pira wiggled his fingers with a gleeful smile.
