Chapter 301 - Chapter 79: Day of Vengeance (Part 4)

"Venus has already given me a warning, about seven or eight cars from the Sixth Street Gang are on their way to provide support, but luckily V has attracted enough attention, so these cars are probably all the manpower left that the Sixth Street Gang in the River Valley District can deploy."

Mercer said, while Rebecca remained uninterested, staring blankly and replied with a 'hmm'.

As Mercer's Jun Mizutani drifted to a stop in front of them, she grabbed her bag to get in, but Mercer pulled her back: "What's up with you? Put your stuff in the trunk."

"Oh... okay."

Rebecca woke as if from a dream and responded, placed her items properly, and then sat in the car. Once Mercer was in the driver's seat, Polaris began to accelerate the vehicle.

"Venus has mapped out the escape route for me, please check the escape plan it provided in the prosthetic eye."

Polaris sounded somewhat excited: "It's currently an emergency evacuation, may I unlock the safety speed limit?"

"Sure, go faster, but safety first." Mercer reminded—he was unsure if Venus's high-speed mode was stable.

Unlike humans who can physically feel changes in vehicle acceleration and differences in body detail, now simply connected to the smart driving Polaris AI, it hasn't achieved perfect control over the vehicle's state.

"Understood! I will ensure your experience of speed and passion comes with safety as a priority!"

Polaris even automatically played a lively BGM.

It was Johnny Silverhand's Martial Servant Band's 'Chippin' In', translated here, it's that classic 'Plug In'.

"Can you fell it! Can you touch it! Get ready 'cause here we go!"

(Can you feel it? Can you touch it? Get ready, and we're off!)

As the familiar electric guitar melody and Johnny Silverhand's roar rang from the radio, Rebecca seemed to finally snap out of it, took a deep breath, and her gaze sharpened once more.

She reopened the clip of Iron Gall with a snap and began loading her large shotgun shells one by one.

"Sorry, just now I felt a bit..." Rebecca didn't quite know what to say, just softly said, "not that relieved inside."

"Hmm." Mercer didn't probe too deeply.

But Rebecca opened up: "I thought killing him would avenge my dad and wrap up that period of wandering for us.

But it was only after blowing him away that I realized... I didn't really hate him that much.

He just did what everyone would do in Night City.

But... damn it, I don't know how to say it, Mercer, I just feel like there's still a fire inside me."

She didn't know where this anger came from herself, after loading the ammunition, she forcefully chambered a round, opened the car window, and loudly asked, "Polaris, where are those bastards?"

"Once you're prepared, according to the route, we'll engage in a confrontation with two Sixth Street Gang cars at the intersection within a minute."

Polaris advised quite humanely: "I suggest you don't engage in mutual shooting with the windows down, allow the host to perform remote hacking."

"Forget it, let her enjoy a good fight."

Mercer said, and Polaris no longer spoke more, adjusted the speed, and after a minute, the car collided almost directly with two speeding American muscle cars.

Without any verbal nonsense, Rebecca just pulled the trigger, and the driver of the leading car watched in horror as a large scary crack appeared on the bulletproof glass.

To be accurate, this so-called glass could almost be regarded as a bulletproof steel plate, to be nearly penetrated by a single shot? That's simply horrifying!

Then, Rebecca quickly snapped and fired again, the bulletproof iron window exploded entirely into a big hole, and the driver inside didn't even have time to scream, dying directly in the seat.

"Fuck you! All of you can die!"

Rebecca shouted, firing the shotgun continuously. On one of the cars, a Sixth Street person leaned out to shoot back at her, but Rebecca was fearless.

She just laughed wildly while pulling the trigger, turning each person who poked out into a blood mist.

The two cars lasted only a few seconds before she shot them directly to pieces, crashing into the wall by the road.

Afterward, Rebecca retrieved herself back into the car, exhaled deeply.

"Feel better?" Mercer asked.

"No, but at least vented a bit." Rebecca snapped and sat in the seat, sighing.

Mercer thought for a moment, suddenly said: "Do you know what this song is about?"

Rebecca thought for a moment and said: "Plug In?"

"A rocker boy kicked out of the house by his girlfriend, guess why?" Mercer said in a leisurely tone.

Rebecca looked at him blankly: "Why?"

"Because he couldn't perform 'Plug In'." Mercer said righteously.

Rebecca almost immediately understood the double meaning, then burst into laughter, looking at his serious expression, laughing even more: "Ha~ such a lame joke?"

"I'm not joking, Plug In is a classic from the Martial Servant Band. A rocker boy who can't perform Plug In is definitely fake rock."

Mercer said, even he started to laugh: "Alright, the big revenge is avenged, don't overthink it—I know you're feeling empty inside, but it's better than having done nothing.

Say goodbye to the past, say fuck you, we've still got a lot to do ahead, let's end the past right here."

"You're right..." Rebecca took a breath and said with a smile, "The past is the past... My dad's story isn't over yet, as long as I'm alive, his legend continues."
