Chapter 35: Yūga Hōzumi VS Sora (Part 2)
"Oh, vicious toys possessed by evil spirits, descend now and bring a curse of destruction upon this world! Fusion Summon!"
"Appear, Level 10! Frightfur Nightmare Mary!"
A torrent of rampaging toys transformed into a purple vortex filled with malevolent energy. Moments later, a tattered rag doll slowly rose from the vortex. An eerie aura arose, and strange cackles from an unknown source filled the entire field.
Frightfur Nightmare Mary ATK: 2000
"No wonder you didn't choose to destroy M7. So you were waiting for me here," Yūga Hōzumi said with a shrug.
"Frightfur Nightmare Mary's ATK increases by the number of Fairy and Fiend-Type monsters in my Graveyard x 300."
"So far in this duel, I have a total of 12 Fairy and Fiend-Type monsters in my Graveyard. Therefore, this card's ATK increases by 3600!"
Frightfur Nightmare Mary ATK: 2000 → 5600
"What a brilliant counter! Not only did Sora successively block Yūga Hōzumi's field-clearing moves, but he also summoned a monster with a staggering 5600 ATK during his opponent's turn! So now, how will Yūga Hōzumi break through Sora's defenses?"
"By the way, my monster has an effect: by banishing one Frightfur monster from my Extra Deck as a cost, I can negate any effect that targets this card." Sora looked at Yūga Hōzumi and licked his lips. "So, if you want to defeat me, come at me with a monster with even higher attack points, if you can."
"Then as you wish," Yūga Hōzumi said, revealing a card.
"I activate the Spell Card, Gagagarevenge!"
"I target one Gagaga monster in my Graveyard and Special Summon it, then equip it with this card."
"Revive, Zubababancho - Gagaga Coat."
"I activate the effect of Zubababancho - Gagaga Coat!"
"I target one 'Gogogo' or 'Dododo' monster in my Graveyard and Special Summon it!"
"Revive! Dodododwarf - Gogogoglove!"
"I overlay my two Level 4 monsters!"
Yūga Hōzumi pointed a single finger skyward, summoning forth a brilliant galaxy. The number 39, shimmering on the back of his hand and in the center of the galaxy, glowed in harmony.
"Xyz Summon! Rank 4! Descend! Warrior of Hope!"
"Number 39: Utopia Double!"
The sacred light from Utopia Double's arrival dispelled the gloom cast by Sora's monster. Utopia's radiant figure seemed to echo the scattered starlight in the night sky.
Number 39: Utopia Double DEF: 2500
In the surveillance room of the stadium, Reiji Akaba gazed at Utopia, who resembled a god of light, and mused, "Is it Number 39 this time? A Number monster? Is this the trump card of the duelists from the XYZ Dimension?"
"Knowing you can't defeat my monster, did you choose to bolster your defense?" Sora sneered, but before he could rejoice for long, the golden orb circling Utopia Double's side flashed.
"I activate the effect of Number 39: Utopia Double!"
"I detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to add 1 'Double or Nothing!' from my Deck to my hand. Then, I Xyz Summon 1 'Utopia' Xyz Monster from my Extra Deck, other than this card, by using this card on the field as material. The monster Special Summoned by this effect has its ATK doubled, and it cannot attack directly."
"Xyz Change! Descend! Rank 4! Warrior of Hope! Number 39: Utopia!"
As Yūga Hōzumi's voice fell, Utopia, in Defense Position, began to transform and reassemble. Soon, Utopia stood tall once more before Yūga Hōzumi, its longsword pointed directly at the eerie rag doll in front of Sora.
Number 39: Utopia ATK: 2500 → 5000
"Yūga Hōzumi has now summoned a monster with 5000 ATK! However, it's still 600 points short of Sora's Nightmare Mary! Does he have another play?" Announcer Uncle exclaimed passionately.
"Battle! I attack with Number 39: Utopia!"
"Eh? He's just attacking like that?" Announcer Uncle was stunned.
"I activate Utopia's effect!"
"When an attack is declared by any monster, I can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to negate the attack! Moon Barrier!"
"At this moment! I activate the Quick-Play Spell, Double or Nothing!"
"When a monster's attack is negated, I can target that monster! During this Battle Phase, it can attack one more time, and during the damage step of that attack, its ATK is doubled!"
The energy gathered in Utopia's wings poured into the longsword in its hand. In an instant, the sword transformed into a massive blade of light. Utopia raised the blade high and brought it down.
Number 39: Utopia ATK: 5000 → 10000
"10,000 ATK! This surpasses Sora's ace, Nightmare Mary, by 4400 points! And Sora only has 3000 LP! Is this duel over?" Announcer Uncle said.
Sora, meanwhile, gritted his teeth as he watched the sword of light draw closer, retreating rapidly. Just as the blade was about to strike the rag doll behind him, Sora dove and snatched an Action Card from the ground.
"Action Spell, Miracle!"
"One monster on the field cannot be destroyed by this battle, and the battle damage is halved!"
The blade of light fell. Even with the Action Card's protection preventing his monster from being destroyed, the shockwave of the attack still blasted through to Sora, sending him crashing to the ground, covered in wounds.
Sora LP: 3000 → 800
Yūga Hōzumi frowned as he watched Sora slowly get back on his feet, feeling utterly exasperated.
"Seriously, who the hell came up with this completely idiotic dueling mechanic?"
"Ha… hahahaha!" Sora, his face covered in blood, burst into laughter after standing up. "As prey, your struggles are very satisfying! Compared to that fodder who have already been turned into cards, hunting prey like you is far more interesting!"
Hearing this, Yūga Hōzumi couldn't help but clench his fists.
"Yes, yes, yes! I love that expression! Those wastes who were turned into cards never had an expression like that! All they had was fear before death! There's no fun in that at all!" Sora guffawed. He pulled a piece of candy from his pocket, crunched it, and swallowed it mixed with the blood on his face.
Yūga Hōzumi took a deep breath to regain his composure and revealed the cards in his hand.
"I activate the Equip Spell, Wonder Wand!"
"This card can only be equipped to a Spellcaster-type monster. The equipped monster's ATK increases by 500."
Gagaga Sister ATK: 200 → 700
"I activate Wonder Wand's effect! By sending the equipped monster and this card from my field to the Graveyard, I can draw two cards."
"I activate the Spell Card, Dododo Draw! By sending one 'Dododo' monster from my field or hand to the Graveyard, I draw two cards."
"I set two cards and end my turn," Yūga Hōzumi said coldly.
