Who could have predicted that such an ordinary word would become my personal nightmare?

Initially, I had chosen to ignore what Suzanne explained to me at the diner. But as she elaborated further, despite my desperate desire to remain in denial, I understood she was telling the truth.

Bradley and I were destined mates.

The very person who had inflicted more pain on me than anyone else was my fated partner.

What a cruel joke the universe was playing on me.

"Admit that you sense it, Tonia." He rose to his feet. "Acknowledge that everything finally makes sense."

My voice caught in my throat. Tears I desperately wanted to suppress began gathering in my eyes.

"I experienced the same confusion when I discovered the truth. But eventually, everything clicked into place. You were never able to Siphon me successfully. The fundamental rule about fated Siphons is they cannot harm their destined mate. They can only channel their power when attempting to heal or protect."
