Faye's POV
I braced myself for his attack, certain he would tear me apart like a wild animal.
Instead, he looked past me.
In one fluid motion, Hardy vaulted from the saddle and landed hard on the frozen ground. His hand moved faster than my eyes could follow, and suddenly steel gleamed in the pale moonlight. I never saw him draw the weapon. One heartbeat his palm was empty, the next a deadly blade caught the silver light. Perhaps he had claimed it from the previous rider, though I hadn't noticed him take anything.
That's when I heard the snarl behind me.
I started to turn, but Hardy was already in motion.
