"Excuse me, could you repeat that?" I asked, my gaze shifting between Kim and Jeffrey as I tried to process what I'd just heard.
Kim straightened his posture, determination clear in his young features. "My Lady, we've made our decision to serve under Lieutenant Parker. The other boys will join the military training program. Blair and her group will work alongside Physician Allen in the medical wing. We need to find a way to honor what you and the Lord have done for us."
"I don't remember requesting any form of repayment from you." I placed my teacup carefully on its saucer. "You've endured more than enough suffering already. Lieutenant Selena mentioned there are various positions available here for young people like yourselves. You can support yourselves and build secure lives in the northern territories. Military service isn't mandatory. What matters is that you create something meaningful for your futures."
