"We've been trapped here for hours. If we don't leave soon, I might not have the strength to restrain him again," I whispered, my fingers wrapped firmly around Hardy's wrist as the final spasm rippled through his body. Since I had finished treating the wounded soldiers, Hardy's episodes had intensified. He was waking nearly every hour now, and I could feel my power weakening with each struggle to keep him subdued.
Allen peered through a gap in the curtains, his ear pressed against the fabric. "The creatures outside have thinned, but we're far from safe. There will be brief windows between their attacks, but nothing clean. I'm concerned that venturing out there—"
