Director Nick Fury led hundreds of heavily armed S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as they escorted the frozen body of Steve Rogers.
Agents surrounded the convoy on all sides, clearing every route with military precision.
It perfectly matched Fury's style — cautious, methodical, and obsessive about details.
Now that he had Captain America, the nation's first superhero, in his care, he couldn't afford even a single mistake.
But Fury had no idea that the entire "smooth" operation was being orchestrated by Alexander Pierce from the shadows.
If it hadn't been for Pierce's secret orders, half of those agents might have sold Steve's body midway for their own gain.
S.H.I.E.L.D. — once a proud defense organization — was now riddled with Hydra infiltration.
Outwardly powerful, it was, in truth, Hydra's largest base of operations.
And Fury, blissfully unaware, still believed S.H.I.E.L.D. stood for justice.
Pierce, however, was far away, plotting his next move.
Since Fury wouldn't obey, assassination would eventually become necessary.
But not yet — the timing wasn't right. He still needed Fury for one thing: recruiting Captain America into S.H.I.E.L.D.
Once that happened, once Steve fully integrated into the organization, Pierce could easily dispose of Fury and gain control of America's greatest symbol — for free.
Pierce was confident in Fury's ability to recruit Steve, and he also believed Steve would never serve anyone but his country.
And if Steve was loyal to the country… then whoever controlled S.H.I.E.L.D. would, by extension, control him.
Pierce's calculations were as sharp as ever.
That night, Fury's convoy avoided the main roads — the chaos in the cities made them too dangerous.
The agents instead wound through dark alleys and side routes, exhausted but determined.
They gritted their teeth, silently cursing their "damn Black boss" for his relentless perfectionism.
Meanwhile, inside the armored car, Fury couldn't hide his grin.
He'd just pulled off what he considered the deal of the century.
"Hahaha! Trading a useless cube for Captain America himself? That's the best bargain in history!"
The more Fury thought about it, the more he laughed.
The Tesseract might've been powerful, yes — but Steve Rogers was the living embodiment of American faith.
With one speech, the man could inspire millions.
Fury was pragmatic. The Tesseract was a gamble — Steve was guaranteed power.
Back at his villa, Leo turned the glowing Tesseract in his hand, watching as Fury's convoy vanished into the distance.
"Fury, Fury…" he murmured with a faint smile. "You don't realize it yet, but I'm actually helping you."
The Tesseract — also known as the Space Stone — wasn't something ordinary mortals could control.
It represented one of the most fundamental laws of the universe: space itself.
Infinite, unfathomable, and dangerously tempting.
Too many beings across the cosmos craved its power.
Earth, a tiny blue planet, was like a child clutching gold while walking through a den of thieves.
The result? Sooner or later, someone would come to take it.
Now that the Tesseract was in Leo's hands, though, no one else would ever get it.
Once he obtained something, he never gave it back.
He gazed into the cube, mesmerized.
The deep, azure energy shimmered like a miniature universe — countless stars flickering within, each one radiating faint light. It was breathtaking, divine, infinite.
The Tesseract from the movies had only been a man-made imitation.
What Leo held now was real — a universe condensed into crystalline form.
For a long time, he stood there in awe.
Finally, he exhaled slowly. "Hoo…"
"Magnificent… overwhelming… endless…," he whispered, though even a dozen words failed to capture what he felt.
Then his tone hardened. "System, what should I do? Crushing the Tesseract feels like such a waste."
[Host, it's not wasteful — it's necessary, unless you can use teleportation magic to extract the Space Stone.]
The Destroyer System's voice carried its usual calm certainty.
Leo frowned. Teleportation magic? That was out of the question.
Once he fused with the Space Stone, space-based magic would become obsolete anyway.
As if sensing his hesitation, the System spoke again.
[Host, the Tesseract is merely a crystal formed from the Space Stone's leaked energy. It's not truly precious. After fusion, you can easily reforge it using the Stone's power.]
Leo's eyes brightened.
Right. The Tesseract was only a vessel — not the source.
Without hesitation, he clenched his fist.
Crack!
The Tesseract shattered, scattering fragments across the floor.
In its place appeared an oval-shaped Space Stone, glowing with a purer, deeper blue.
It hovered silently, non-aggressive, waiting.
"System, what now?" Leo asked.
[Take out the other Space Stones, Host. They will naturally attract and merge with one another. They share the same origin — their instinct is to reunite and evolve.]
Leo nodded. But before beginning, he teleported far into the desert.
The energy released could be catastrophic, and he wasn't about to risk blowing up his home.
There, under a starlit sky, he took out seven more Space Stones from the System's inventory.
Each one pulsed with the same cosmic rhythm.
The moment all eight appeared, they began spinning rapidly in the air — faster and faster, until their motion blurred beyond sight.
Leo could feel it — their emotions, their joy.
They were alive.
Separated for billions of years, now finally reunited.
He could feel their loneliness, their yearning — and their elation.
Suddenly, the Stones stopped spinning.
Buzz… buzz…
A deep vibration resonated through the desert as they synchronized perfectly.
Then, all eight began to glow — their light merging into a single, concentrated brilliance.
Sizzle!
The blinding blue light converged at the center, forming a nearly transparent, radiant core.
And then —
BOOM!
A shockwave tore through the desert as the eight Space Stones unleashed their final surge of power, their essences dissolving into streams of blue energy that shot straight into Leo's forehead.
For a moment, reality shattered. He saw visions — galaxies forming, stars collapsing, universes expanding and dying.
He felt their history. Their loneliness. Their endless silence.
Then a voice echoed within his mind — vast and ancient.
"Great human… thank you for completing us. Please cherish and wield our hope."
"Do not let our brilliance fade again…"
And then, everything went dark.
Leo opened his eyes, his mind trembling with cosmic awareness.
The fusion of the eight Space Stones was complete.
The universe itself seemed to bend around him.
[Congratulations, Host.]
[You have successfully fused the complete Space Law. The power of infinite space now belongs to you.]
Leo smiled faintly, his eyes glowing like twin stars.
"Let's see," he whispered, "what kind of god I've just become."
