Chapter 308: Arriving at Earth

When Scott mentioned the crucial role of dilithium crystals and their instability under certain conditions, Ryo's synthesized voice opportunely interjected with a question aimed straight at the core: "Then, does a more stable or higher-efficacy crystal alternative exist? Or, is it possible to introduce an external energy field to pre-stabilize the crystal structure to withstand the energy loads at higher warp factors?"

This question made Scott's eyes light up, as if he had found a kindred spirit: "Good lord, you think so too? I submitted several reports long ago regarding plans to improve crystal stability, but the higher-ups always talk about budget and risks..."

It was as if a floodgate had opened. He began discussing technical details with Ryo that even Saavik, who was following them, had to think carefully to understand.

A Mechanicus Magos from the Warhammer universe and a genius engineer from the United Federation of Planets were conducting a cross-dimensional technical exchange inside the engine room of this legendary starship.

Scott taught everything he knew, out of both pride and being guided by Ryo's precise and profound questions; Ryo, on the other hand, was like the greediest sponge, absorbing all knowledge regarding warp. Every byte of information laid a solid foundation block for his future reproduction, improvement, and even surpassing of this technology.

He knew that merely recording and understanding the principles was not enough; he needed something more substantial—perhaps design blueprints, perhaps the synthesis methods for key materials, or even... a complete warp drive.

But at this moment, this in-depth, barrier-free technical exchange was the most wonderful beginning to achieving those goals.

His crimson optical lenses gazed at the steadily operating warp core, as if he could already see countless unknown galaxies waving at him from within this safe, reliable faster-than-light bubble.

The Enterprise sailed smoothly through the vast sea of stars, finally arriving in the Sol System. That blue planet which held a special place in Ryo's cognition—the capital of the United Federation of Planets, Earth—slowly appeared on the main viewscreen.

In stark contrast to the suffocating metallic Hive Cities covering the entire continent and the never-ending dark clouds of war on Holy Terra, and also vastly different from the dilapidated scene of the Cyberpunk Earth divided by megacorporations, plagued by environmental degradation, and socially torn apart, the planet before his eyes presented a harmonious, vibrant, and highly civilized appearance.

The outlines of the azure oceans and emerald lands were clear, the atmosphere was pristine, and various space stations and shuttling spacecraft operated orderly in orbit, revealing an aura of prosperity, peace, and order.

During the voyage, Admiral Kirk had already reported in detail via a secure channel to the Federation Council in Paris regarding the existence of Ryo and his squad, their claimed identity as cross-dimensional explorers, and the situation of their preliminary contact.

After intense discussion and risk assessment, the Council gave clear instructions: they wished to hold a formal meeting with this "Magos" from another dimension, aiming to assess his true intentions and, based on that, determine the tone and depth of future exchanges between the two sides.

When Kirk relayed the Federation Council's invitation to Ryo, the Explorator Magos's reaction was rather flat.

His massive mechanical body stood in the cabin assigned to them, his crimson optical lenses gazing at the Earth drawing closer outside the viewport.

"Bureaucratic procedures," his synthesized voice stated calmly, devoid of joy or anger. "The testing grounds of efficiency. I understand this is a necessary evil."

To him, this kind of political-level contact was far less efficient than communicating directly with technical experts.

However, his enhanced logic core clearly calculated that obtaining official Federation recognition was a necessary prerequisite for deeper, more systematic access to its massive technological repository.

This layer of "official identity" would provide immense convenience for his subsequent actions and reduce many unnecessary troubles.

"Acceptable," Ryo agreed to the invitation. "I also wish to have an intuitive understanding of the Federation's decision-making level."

The itinerary was thus set.

Ryo, accompanied by Admiral Kirk and Dr. Carol, would take a shuttle to the Starfleet Headquarters located in San Francisco, which was also the venue for this meeting.

Carol's presence provided scientific support and was also due to the fact that, as the director of "Project Genesis," she was one of the personnel who had engaged in direct scientific exchange with Ryo.

As for Maine, Valerie, Jackie, and the other squad members, they were arranged to stay on the Enterprise.

Kirk assigned several reliable officers, such as the warm and friendly Uhura and the knowledgeable Sulu, to be responsible for "entertaining" them. This was actually also to prevent this group of "otherworldly mercenaries," armed to the teeth and ignorant of Federation social rules, from causing unnecessary disturbances or security incidents in an unfamiliar environment.

Maine had no objections to this. He knew his place and ordered his team members to stay in designated areas and keep a low profile, while simultaneously using this opportunity to learn more obliquely about this seemingly peaceful world from these Federation crew members.

The shuttle detached from the Enterprise, smoothly passed through Earth's atmosphere, and finally landed in front of the iconic, magnificent Starfleet Headquarters building in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Ryo's massive dark red body stepped out of the shuttle and stood on the ground that symbolized the central hub of the United Federation of Planets' supreme military and exploratory power.

He raised his head, his optical lenses steadily sweeping over this massive architectural complex before him, which blended future technology with classical architectural aesthetics.

Streamlined silver structures coexisted harmoniously with solid concrete foundations. Energy conduits, protected by transparent materials, flowed with faint blue light along the walls, echoing the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance that spanned the bay and sparkled in the sunlight.

In the air, several elegantly styled hovercars shuttled quietly along invisible flight paths, tracing graceful trajectories.

The air was filled with a fresh, unpolluted scent, mixing the slight saltiness of the ocean with the faint fragrance drifting from nearby botanical gardens.

The sunlight fell warmly, and the temperature was precisely controlled to the most comfortable range for the human body.

All these sights and smells seemed to find vague correspondences with any fragment of "Earth" in his memory, yet they appeared so vastly different, so... idealized in every detail.

There was no heavy smell mixing incense and machine oil that lingered on Holy Terra, nor the pungent emissions and over-fermented street food odors that eternally permeated Night City. There was only an almost perfect tranquility and vitality that had been precisely regulated.

"Mr. Magos, this way please." Kirk made a guiding gesture, his expression more formal and serious than when on the ship.

He knew that the upcoming meeting would determine whether the two vastly different civilizations would move toward peaceful exchange or fall into suspicion and estrangement.

Ryo moved his legs, making steady sounds, and followed Kirk and Carol into the Federation Headquarters.

His data processing core was already adjusted to maximum analysis mode, preparing to record every detail of the upcoming meeting—not just language, but also the micro-expressions and behavioral patterns of these high-level Federation officials, as well as the security level and technological application level of the entire headquarters.

To him, this was not just a diplomatic meeting, but a precious opportunity for intelligence gathering. True communication had quietly begun the moment he stepped foot here.
