A new country.
A new school.
And a promise she never made.
Airi Tanaka took a deep breath as she stood at the gates of Haneul High School.
The morning sun felt warm on her skin, but her heart was restless.
After moving from Japan to Korea with her parents, everything felt different — the language, the people, the stares.
She just wanted a quiet start.
But fate — and one particular boy — had other plans.
A loud, teasing voice echoed across the schoolyard.
> "Well, well… look who's finally here! Welcome, my lovely fiancée!"
Airi froze mid-step.
That voice — she already knew it.
Turning her head slightly, she saw Renji Kim, standing near the school entrance, hands in his pockets, a confident smirk on his face.
The school's most popular senior — tall, handsome, and unbelievably annoying.
> "My fiancée," he repeated proudly, loud enough for half the courtyard to hear.
The nearby students gasped and whispered.
> "Wait, she's the one engaged to Renji Kim?"
"She's pretty!"
"Lucky girl!"
Airi sighed and glared at him.
> "Stop calling me that," she said firmly.
Renji tilted his head.
> "What? Shouldn't I greet my future wife properly on her first day?"
> "It's not funny," she muttered, brushing past him.
Renji grinned, falling into step beside her.
> "Come on, at least say hi. Ignoring your future husband already?"
Airi didn't reply. She just walked faster, pretending he wasn't there.
> "Wow," Renji said dramatically. "Cold as ice, huh? You were much cuter when we were kids."
That made her stop for just a second — long enough for him to smile wider.
Then she walked straight into her classroom without another word.
Renji watched her go, still amused.
> "So she really ignores me now," he murmured to himself. "This might actually be fun."
He laughed quietly and turned away, planning his next prank for later.
Meanwhile, Airi sat in her new seat, trying to calm her racing thoughts.
He hasn't changed at all, she thought bitterly.
Always teasing. Always loud.
And now, he was in the same school — her senior, her parents' choice, and her biggest headache.
Her new life in Korea had just begun…
And so had Renji Kim's favorite game — teasing Airi Tanaka every single day.
Airi quietly walked into her new classroom, hoping no one would stare.
But of course, everyone did.
The moment she stepped inside, whispers filled the air.
> "That's her… Renji Kim's fiancée."
"She's from Japan, right?"
"Wow, she's so quiet."
Airi clenched her notebook tighter and looked for an empty seat. She just wanted the day to end peacefully.
Before she could sit, a friendly voice stopped her.
> "Hey, you can take this seat," said a boy from the second row, smiling warmly.
Airi turned. The boy had soft brown hair and gentle eyes.
> "I'm Takumi Lee. You must be the transfer student?"
She nodded slightly. "Yes. Airi Tanaka."
> "Nice to meet you," he said. "If you need help with notes or anything, just ask. Teachers here love surprise quizzes."
Airi gave a small smile — her first real smile that day.
Takumi's kindness felt easy, safe. For a brief moment, she forgot about Renji and all the attention.
But her peace didn't last long.
The classroom door suddenly opened, and in walked Renji Kim, hands in his pockets, wearing that same confident smirk.
He wasn't even in this class — but that never stopped him.
Renji > "Well, well," he said loudly, "look at my fiancée already making new friends."
The class went silent. Airi's shoulders stiffened.
Airi > "Renji…" she said through clenched teeth, "what are you doing here?"
Renji > "Just checking on you," he said casually. "You're my responsibility now."
Airi > "I'm not your responsibility," she snapped, glaring at him.
Renji grinned wider.
> "Sure you are. It's called being a caring fiancé."
The class chuckled. Airi wanted to sink into the floor.
Beside her, Takumi looked between them, confused.
> "Wait, you two are…?"
> "Engaged," Renji answered before Airi could speak, proudly placing a hand on her desk.
"Our parents planned it ages ago."
> "And I don't agree with it," Airi added quickly, pushing his hand away.
Renji pretended to be offended.
Renji > "Ouch. That hurts, fiancée."
Airi > "Stop calling me that!"
The whole class laughed again. Renji winked at Takumi.
> "Take care of her, classmate. She gets mad easily."
Then, just as quickly as he came, he turned and left.
Airi sighed deeply, resting her head on the desk.
> "I seriously can't stand him."
Takumi chuckled softly.
> "He's... definitely something. But don't worry — I'll help you survive him."
Airi smiled faintly. "Thanks. I might really need that."
