Chapter 3 - 3

Chapter 3. Plans for the future?? 2.

***

Fixing himself on the bench, Jake continued on with his ranting. "Honestly, if you think about it, having a class in this world truly puts you in the top already."

"Think about it. If you're a classless person then you can count how many skills you'll have even after reaching level 20."

Counting all the existing skills he will have till he reaches level 30. "The skill from the baptism. Then the 3 skills, after that 5 on level 10-20, then another 5 on level 21-30."

"If I conclude all of this in one I'll have what? 14 skills in total…., sure if we include that one passive skill I already have. Still, that's only 15 skills in total at level 30."

But.

"If we compared that to those who have class? How many skills will they have then?" Sigh. "I can't even imagine the amount of skills those with class actually have…." Thinking about it, Jake shrugged it off.

Putting his palm into his forehead he continued on. "Not only that, the [3 skills] also have a limited usage on them, unlike the [Zero Skill] we got on our baptism."

[3 skills] have only three uses for each of them. Combining the three, that's a total of nine cast from them. Unlike the actual [Zero Skill], which has unlimited usage.

Hours later.

Gazing at the orange sky, Jake stood up from his position and made his way to the east gate. In the last three days, this was his routine.

Wake up, go to the center of the town, and when night comes go to the west gate to watch the adventurers going home from their hunt.

"He's here again." The two guards said in unison watching Jake near them.

"Jake, don't you have things to do instead of doing this?" One of the guards asked Jake as he sat on the ground.

"I'm unemployed.." He replied with a stern expression.

"Then become an adventurer then!"

"I don't have the money to pay for the fees to become one." He replied once again. "Don't you guys remember, I get my food from the temple."

Hearing Jake's words the two couldn't help but feel dumbfounded, because he's been going to this place the moment the sun goes down.

The three of them got to know each other, and one of their findings about his situation is that he does not have a single coin on him.

When they tried to give him enough money to pay for the fees within the adventurer guild, he outright refused them, saying: "I don't want to be indebted to anyone." Pushing away the money in their hands.

"Wait." Recalling Jake's situation, one of the guards realized something. "If you're unemployed to the point you can only have a meal, if the temple provides one, where have you been sleeping all this time?"

He was silent for a moment, hearing the question before answering: "You know, anywhere safe at night?" He avoided their gaze as they glared at him.

"Besides, let's forget about my situation right now and let me watch the adventurers going home, will you!" Jake said to the two shifting his gaze towards the incoming people from the forest.

A moment later, a group of three figures came forward, to the three sights.

"Good work out there!" The two said to the three as they entered back to the town.

"Thank you for your work!" The man said back to the guards.

"You two!" The female spell caster of the group replied.

"Thanks…" The shy girl of the group murmurs, avoiding their faces. The guards only smiled and nodded back to them as they entered the town.

As the group of three was far enough from the gate, the guards started talking once again. "Look, Jake, if you become an adventurer, you can have something like that."

"No thanks, sounds troublesome," Jake instantly replied, before calling out one of them. "Still, I can't believe you guys work this well. Uncle Allen."

"Well, we can only thank our skills for it. If we didn't have them, we would have spent a long time checking everyone's Status Card one by one." Allen shrugged for a moment.

"Can you imagine it, at least 1-2 thousand people are leaving the town every day, if we had to check them one by one, it would take us hours to do it."

"Right…, you two really highlight each other's skills." Jake admired the two Zero skills, thanks to their skill, they can have an easy time dealing with the people coming home at this gate.

The three conversations came to a stop as tens of people were coming back from the forest. Seeing the number of people coming back, Jake scooches himself tight against the walls to give them a space to walk on.

Allen and Roth, came forward outside the gate, preparing themselves to do their job. Activating Allen's Zero skill [Identity], he ensures the people coming back are the people who left this morning.

When someone tried to enter for the first time, they would put this person on the side for later identification. And when a criminal comes forward to his sight, the two won't hesitate to apprehend this individual.

Roth Zero skill [Line up], make sure that everyone coming back would line up with their group avoiding flooding. By creating a 2x3 meter box, a group can step into this box, allowing everyone to not start fighting to get in first.

By combining each other's skills, Roth ensures a quick grouping of people, avoiding people flooding in the gate and causing problems. And with Allen's skill, he can identify them at a glance, allowing the next group in their turn.

"A simple but great combination of skills. Perfect for this kind of job." Jake muttered on the side watching the groups of adventurers making their way back to the town.

…..

As Jake walks toward the south gate, whispering. "Should be around 9 or ten by now." Rubbing both his hands to heat up his cold hands.

"Even with their skills it still took them over an hour." At the end of the inspection of Roth and Allen's jobs, Jake stayed over for three hours watching them do their work.

Looking around the area, he found the fountain he was watching all this time. Gazing at it, he told himself, "Tomorrow I'll start earning money so I can become an adventurer."

One of the reasons why he hasn't done anything all this time is that his mind was cluttered with all kinds of things. At first, he wanted to take a day off from the baptism to take time understanding what happened that day.

But before he knew it he spent over three days doing nothing but going to the center to watch people throw spare change into the fountain and going to the East gate when the sun goes down.

Pathetic. He knew his actions were one. Nonetheless, he didn't regret his decision for all this time.

Instead, he was glad that he took this time thinking about what he should do before doing anything reckless.
